Pros
Ed is a good role model for corporate transparency.
Cons
Sales staff are told collectively by their managers that they have lost work from anywhere privileges because they did not hit their numbers. Those same managers are going on an all-expense paid president's club trip to the Caribbean...even though their teams did not hit quota, much less make President's Club. This is not leadership by example. This is a form of favoritism.

Thank you for the review. We had a rewrite of the plan for this new year by a team of front line Dudes, including some sales folks. The go forward 2019 qualification plan (2020 trip) for sales is 100% objective. There will be no provisional entries...the bar is either cleared or not. We are also adding a way for NON sales to get in through our Doing Something Incredible Award process which is by Dude front liners for Dude front liners. I have forwarded this message to sales leadership for addressing the team on 2018 plans/attainment. Thanks for being a Dude! Hopefully, I will see you in 2020 on the trip!

Pros
Some of the non-work environment related benefits are good, like the retirement matching and work from anywhere.
Cons
Management is now taking anyone they do not like, creating a ridiculous performance improvement plan that is impossible to live up to (with the threat to fire you in 90 days of you don't hit it), and then offering 1 month severance to leave if you sign an NDA promising not to talk about just how toxic it is to work at this company at the same time. They're basically telling you they're going to fire you in 90 days or you can take a month's pay to leave now. They have engaged in targeted removals of several long-standing employees with no previous record of poor behavior with these heavy-handed plans and not-too-subtle threats of "shut up or get out" and every day people are surprised by a new email about someone having their last day, and given no other insight behind it.

Pros
*****Posted this review in Jan 2022, before they rebranded as Brightly, so I am re-posting for Brightly. That is how strongly I support this message to folks considering employment at Brightly (formerly, Dude Solutions) Pros There are some truly good and talented people that work at Dude, unfortunately, they are leaving rapidly for less toxic environments. Individual contributors and mid managers (plus a few senior leaders) really do seem to care about the products, their customers and each other. The 'work from anywhere' benefit really did come in handy at the beginning of 2020 and the Help Desk team made that possible without any disruption to business as usual. Benefits Analyst is thorough and helpful and Client Support team is amazing - though, significantly overworked. CEO seems to be genuine but is clearly fulfilling his mission which was to acquire, grow via acquisition and be acquired.
Cons
Cons Career advancement is nil and those in leadership roles are not focused on coaching or mentoring their employees. It's a very "what have you done for me lately" mentality. Massive attrition numbers where root cause was never discussed - Dude hemorrhaged people in spring 2021 (incredibly tenured people with loads of experience) and attrition numbers were outside of the "great resignation". HR leadership is, at best, a total joke and an abysmal example of a "people team" - the person that runs Payroll is a nightmare to work with and has made several people wonder why they even ask questions - curt, rude and all around miserable to engage with. CHRO is breeding negativity and is painfully unaware of how she presents to the greater organization - irreverent and dismissive of anyone that cannot bolster her career at Dude/Brightly. Marketing and Product teams are vastly overworked and unhappy - Product and Engineering are constantly at odds and the disconnection is easily seen and felt throughout the organization. Sales is a revolving door of new SDRs that receive minimum training with the majority of strong leaders having left Dude mid 2021. Any semblance of "culture" has left the building and Dude is certainly not a "people first" organization; you'd be hard pressed to find a former Dude that would ever return. I would not work for that leadership team again for 10x my salary. 10:10 do not recommend. Advice for management: Remove the dull dogs that sit on the executive leadership team OR insist that they complete rigorous sensitivity and advanced acumen courses if removing them is not an option. Conduct 360 evaluations and skip levels with the worker bees - REVIEW ALL EXIT INTERVIEW DATA.

Pros
Great benefits including unlimited PTO, work from anywhere, very competitive medical plans and 401k matching. From an Engineer's perspective, the problems that need to be solved are really neat and challenging. The business is in a unique position to really make some waves in the industry. The vast majority of the mid-level leadership within Engineering are very good mentors and are genuine in their daily management of the teams. Ed (the CEO) is a straight shooter and communicates very well. He walks the talk every day.
Cons
Senior leadership within Engineering uses fear-based tactics to try and "keep their folks in line". This style does not promote the best kind of work environment where you feel like you have to walk on eggshells every day. If you're in disagreement with a decision that is made, and you make a public comment saying such (even if it's completely respectful and justified), you are often shown the door. If you're looking for a pure Agile shop, this is not the place any longer. Changes have been made recently which have started to trend towards more of a "Scrum fall" methodology. The concept of self-organizing teams is out the window. Management dictates how things will go and you have no choice but to comply.

I appreciate the review. We do have some good leaders in engineering and every other department of the company.. That said, I encourage any Dude employee who feels that they are being led through fear based tactics to document any toxic incident and immediately request a meeting with HR to discuss and find a solution. (Even if it is something I have done!) Fear based leadership has no place at the Dude. It is not part of the healthy culture we want to build. Thanks again for the review. And, thank you for the contributions you made during your time here.

Pros
The company is positioning itself to practically double in size (Revenue and Employees) in the next 3 years. We've made key investments in leadership that's been there and done, that and putting functions where they belong to fuel growth. We have the market domination and branding to support the growth organically, which is often unheard of. And after 20 years in the business, our clients are still our #1 priority. We've made advancements in recruiting and increased our benefits in key areas such as Work From Anywhere, Unlimited PTO (2019), 12 week paid Maternity/Paternity leave (2019) to attract new talent to the Dude.
Cons
To double in size within 3 years, this takes extreme focus and tough decision making along the way. It's impossible to make everyone happy. We've got to clean up our back-end systems to scale appropriately and reduce the manual efforts that are being exhausted throughout the company. These manual processes have been career progression killers for several key team members. We're losing SME of the market with the losses of more tenured employees.

Thank you for the review. From my perspective, both the pros and cons ring spot on. And, we are working hard on a lot of the items. We have a lot of lifting ahead!

Pros
I love the culture of Dude. Who wouldn't want to work for a company that allows you to work from anywhere, gives you unlimited time off to manage your own life, brings in professionals to help you balance your work / life with yoga, meditation, life coaching, massage therapy and some of the most competitive benefits? It's like a reward for my productivity and work ethic. As long as I am doing my part I can reap the benefits of these rewards. I feel like I can really make a difference in the lives of my clients. My leadership has been there to help guide me in improving where I am weak as well as grow in my strengths. This allows me to be there for my clients and treat them as people and not just a number as well. We push for quality over the quantity and our clients feel that. That is why they stay with us for so long. I am proud to represent a company like this to my clients.
Cons
I know that here are a lot of little things that need tweaking and are in the works but my most pressing is probably the transparency into roles and career paths across the company. It is something that I know is in the works and I am getting antsy to see how this is solved. It has taken a while but I hope it is soon.

Thank you for the review. I am glad you are having a good experience here. Career mapping is a big puzzle we are trying to solve. It is taking a while as it is complex and I think Kathryn, who is on mat leave for a bit longer, was a big contributor to the effort. I will ask Pam to update Dude Nation on progress. Thanks again. Pros
Excellent technical growth opportunity if you land in the right team. Pay is negotiable and is usually up to par with market. 'Work from Anywhere' and 'Unlimited Time Off' are actually what they sound like once you've established the rapport with your team. Good stuff. If you land on the right team - be prepared to work on a lot of bleeding edge stuff and be ready to learn!
Cons
Engineering has seen a bit of attrition over the last year or so (some on their own accord, some asked to leave) and that has taken it's toll on overall velocity and ability to respond to business pivots - unfortunately, the business side of things haven't adjusted to this fact (the opposite in fact) and more recently engineering has seen a very topsy-turvy approach to what is referred to as a "roadmap." That all being said, its not all that bad and while I sympathize with some of the less favorable reviews, their experience wasn't my own. Indeed, the amount of opportunity available here to a mid-level engineer is a proverbial gold mine. To the engineer with the right attitude, you'll greatly enjoy the freedom and flexibility this organization offers.

Thank you for this review. I think you have captured a lot of truth here. Good. Bad. In middle. We have a lot of passionate and hard working people in PM and Engineering working on a lot of initiatives in our product area. Best to you. Ed

Pros
Unlimited vacation (take it our you lose it); Work from anywhere policy, employee pride in brand
Cons
Bad decision making regarding products (launches, sunsets, migration, platform); poor communication between departments. HR is not your friend. Poor data integration and processes across teams.

First, thanks for the review. I agree with a lot of your post with the exception of the HR comment. We have process and system projects all over the place to try to clean up stuff. On the product side, I have a lot of faith. And confidence in our current engineering and PM teams. They have made a lot of progress the last twelve months. The product comments made are fair back to about a year ago. We have great road maps, delivery to them and good measures on progress. Not perfect, but many of us see the improving picture. I stand by our product folks. Thanks again for the post. Best to you in your journey. Ed
