    Positive Outlook

I worked at Bristol Bay Native (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can take the summers off for commercial or subsistence purposes

    Cons

Some times inner office politics override things

    Advice to Management

    Pay attention to your staff

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Bristol Bay Native full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent folks, helpful HR, remote positions [some], good benefits, profit sharing

    Cons

The typical volatility that comes with government contracting. Project support that comes and goes from the client due to budgetary pressures outside their control.

    Advice to Management

Consider building a small bench cushion into appropriate contract bids to enable BBNC to consider retaining key personnel if they see a short-term possibility of placement when unexpected client changes occur.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Bristol Bay Native full-time

    Pros

Compensation would be fair if the company could stick to a 8-5 work day.

    Cons

It's been awhile, but wanted to post the reality for anyone working in the administrative duties like A/R, A/P, payroll, or HR. They are extremely understaffed and ignore "burn-out" help requests from employees. A favorite phrase was "we have opportunities for the right person", but the reality is opportunities to burn people out and ignore the need for more help until the last minute, if at all. If you apply for management the hours will still be long, but if applying for admin? Stay away! You will have very little work/life balance. Managers are very overworked as well. It is a revolving door of employees, from admin to management.

    Advice to Management

Remove managers that are dishonest, have a history of offending people, and listen to employees when they say there's a problem. By the time an employee brings an issue forward, it's been happening for awhile, and in many cases for years.

    Pros

Understanding when I missed filling in my timesheet due to "fighting fires" for our client
Currently 401K vesting from day 1
    Superb Health benefits

    Cons

Since they work hard to keep overhead down it was occasionally hard to reach folks in the head office; however, when I did get through they were always extremely polite and helpful.

So why am I a former employee instead or a current employee? Our client had a budget short fall of $2 million. "In their shoes", I would have had to lay me off too.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Bristol Bay Native full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Overall the company is very people orientated and compensate the employees fairy but your chance for growth is limited.

    Cons

They have a tendency to hire not necessarily the highest qualified employee but a shareholder. It is not a level playing field for non shareholders.

    Advice to Management

Open up the lines of communication to all employees not just shareholders.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Bristol Bay Native full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

They really try to take care of their employees. They really try to work through problems with an employee in a fashion that works for both them and the employee.

    Cons

Sometimes short sightedness can be a problem. They are remotely based and it makes it hard to live in the area due to expenses.

    Advice to Management

Move major operations to Anchorage and keep Dillingham as a service area.
