I have been working at Bristol Farms part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible, benefits, free AA degree Retail mgmt, opportunity for growth. I love this company very much. Shooting for a promotion

    Cons

Disorganized, sometimes to accommodating to lazy employees. Unskilled and unambitious employees are not encouraged but not dealt with in a way to endorse improvement

    Advice to Management

It's okay to lay down the law on unproductive employees

I have been working at Bristol Farms part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice store with lots of gourmet items

    Cons

They don't care at all about employees. used to have profit sharing but got rid of that. Won't allow union organizing. Terrible raises (10-25 cents per year ???) no vacation pay until 5yrs (part time) lots of employee turnover because of those reasons.

    Advice to Management

Take care of good employees instead of regarding them as liabilities. Bring back incentivizing profit sharing, allow unionization

I worked at Bristol Farms full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay was decent, as was some of the perks.

    Cons

    1. Health care premiums started off low when Bristol used to manage itself, but now that it's owned by investors, each year the cost increase has outpaced your yearly raises ($0.14hr). By the time I left as a full time employee, the lowest plan was $140 a week for a family. The new company I work with now offers insurance at $30 a week, with better coverage.

    2. Bring back the 6% 401k match. Once of the huge drawing points for me applying to Bristol was this nice bonus. But as the years have gone on, I have seen the match go from 6 to 3 and then down to a 1. Seriously 1% ??!! It's truly a joke and one of the main reasons why I left. Thankfully my current employee continues to offer 6% making sure their employees are set for their future.

    3. Treat your employees better. While I loved working with customers in my department, I could not stand all the drama the other employees had with each other. I could tell how some employees were also fed up with how the company was treating them as I saw shrink (internal theft) on a daily basis. Since you currently don't have a LP position, employees have been taking advantage of you each and every day.

    4. Have integrity in your business. While I understand that the grocery business runs on tight profit margins, there is no reason to have the employees do questionable things. I have seen food labels removed and issued new dates, about to expire items stored in a freezer to have them hidden from the health department and even saw a case of regular chicken that came from Food 4 Less repackaged as air chilled to be put in the display case. Stop with the famous Bristol motto of "Stack it high, watch it fly" and also end of the shrink meetings that have managers coming out in tears. Let employees throw out food that should not be severed to customers ! Sooner or later someone is going to get sick, and it will all fall back on you and how to run the business.

    Advice to Management

Bring back 6% 401 match, lower out of pocket cost for employees health insurance.

I worked at Bristol Farms full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good hours, made great pay. Usually start above minimum wage, way better than other places. Management is pretty fair, I enjoyed working with my store director very much. Usually promote from within.

    Cons

Really no cons, other than working over time was almost always an issue even though the work load could be much at times.

    Pros

Amazing place to work with unlimited posibility

    Cons

In order to keep my job I needed to become part of the clique in the bakery. Wasn't going to happen

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Bristol Farms full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company offers Medical, dental, Vision and 401K which are very helpful. Also a generous vacation plan as well as sick pay.

    Cons

High costs for medical, and sadly they keep climbing. would hope that in the future and as the company grows the company will absorb more of the costs

    Advice to Management

Fun company to work for, management is not to overbearing. Advice for management would be to advocate for their employees a bit more.
