I have been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Brand Name, making medicines that improve life and health of patients (one of the most noble/moral causes), work culture, benefits

    Cons

Nothing major that comes to mind, minor issue - HR should make it a point to educate new employees about the fact that default medical insurance doesnt come with a great pharmacy insurance option, seems default medicine/pharmacy coverage includes a 1300$ deductible !!!

    Advice to Management

Please keep up the great work

    Pros

Company has a good work environment. Lots of events are organised to motivate employees and chances of direct interaction with the patients.

    Cons

There is a lot of segregation between full time and contract employees often referred to as red and blue badges.

I have been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic facility! 99% of the people there are really great

    Cons

There is too much politics within the management. Matrix responsibilities are confusing to contractors, as we report to one manager, but sort of reporting to other managers as well, and being a contractor you have no say or clout to look out for yourself. Management seems generally cold to contractors.

    Advice to Management

Let contractors report to one manager. Some middle managers need to develop their people/ teamwork skills

    Pros

    Strong pipeline/leader in I-O

Very nice, new facility, large amount of resources.

    Cons

Upper management has no respect for the people who are actually in the lab doing the work. Racism is prevalent, and is seen as the main driver of promotions and recognitions. Scientists are moved between departments without having a choice; and sub-department re-orgs are common, in an attempt by upper management to "keep the people happy". Problem managers threaten their direct reports, punish them for working overtime, and perform poorly in general with no repercussions whatsoever. Retention issues are apparent.

All drug programs are extremely accelerated, leaving no time for scientists to actually do science. Drugs are pushed through the pipeline as fast as humanly possible without any sort of scientific verification, giving rise to problems down the line.

Minimal chance for long-term career growth. Once your promoted once, time to find a new job! That's the end of the line.

    Advice to Management

Be respectful, and don't keep problem managers around.

I have been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are great, the pay is great, the work life balance is great with the 12 hour shifts they have, the people that you work with can be great it depends on where and when you work, opportunity for growth, you go in and you get your work done and no problems.

    Cons

Depending with the people you work with some are there for themselves and don't set up others for success and you have to clean up messes, there is a lack of accountability unless it affects production between shifts. Overall I think this problem of holding people accountable occurs with 'looking out' for the people on your shift and it divides everyone and the success.

    Advice to Management

Keep up with connecting with your employees and listening to their ideas, keep your word on how to make the work area better where theres opportunity to do it. Hold people accountable for their actions.

Former Intern - Global Procurement Co-Op in Devens, MA

I worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Was given responsibility early on and acted as a project manager. Had access to great training programs that heed me throughout my internship. Was encouraged to learn about the biopharma industry and research being done at BMS.

    Cons

The program was not structured at all, found myself having some days with nothing to do. People were not willing to help me on my project and were too preoccupied with their own work, often took people weeks and weeks to answer a simple email. Also, there is little collaboration between the functional areas, making it difficult to implement a program that affects multiple functional areas.
