I have been working at Bristol West full-time

    Pros

Great culture, involved management, forward thinking company with a lot of career opportunities. Company continues to grow which allows career progression that I haven't seen at my prior companies. Great pay and benefits.

    Cons

Fast paced environment isn't always for everyone. You have to enjoy the challenge.

I worked at Bristol West full-time

    Pros

    - excellent benefits, UHC Health, Dental, Vision
    - 19 accrued PTO days a year
    - job stability
    - office locations are at desirable locations
    - cash bonus if you and the company makes annual goals

    Cons

    - below average pay
    - No career growth or development. There are very few career advancement opportunities. You will more than likely remain in your position for most of your career at Bristol West unless you are a favorite.
    - The rules do not apply to everyone.
    - little to no training. High expectations for understanding processes although they were never demonstrated, explained, or taught.
    - The company values the bottom line. From hiring employees and paying claims the favored route is the less costly one.
    - unreasonable work load. You are expected to work a high number incoming claims regardless of the quantity coming in which creates a highly stressful work environment.
    - Most claims positions are salary, you will never be able to do your job in 40 hours. expect to work 9 or 10 + hours a day. The company saves money this way.
    - unable to use PTO freely due to high work load and high turnover
    - micromanagement, you will never have the autonomy to make your own decisions.
    - management has made little to no effort to address employee concerns
    - very high turnover because of the reasons above

    Advice to Management

Understand what true leadership means, do not sacrifice good people for numbers. Rethink your values and put your people first. Take care of your employees and they will make everything happen for you.

    Pros

Training is great and on going, if you have never worked in insurance a great place to start. Awesome work life balance.

    Cons

Sometimes it is overwhelming, and there are inconsistencies in advise from managers.

    Advice to Management

One, get all the managers on the same page on how and why we do what we do.

I worked at Bristol West full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-There are amazing people working there. You will not find coworkers that friendly and awesome elsewhere.
-Work hours. You work 8hrs a day. If you get in early, you get out early.
    -No surveys.

    Cons

-Managements. If you have a good leader, he/her will help you grow. If you got one of those bad ones, you will hate the claim life.
-Work load. They over work you and stingy with the over time. It is common for adjusters to have 150+ claim files pending. There is no way to get back up. Once I got hired by another insurance company and told them the work loads, they could not believe it. It was ridiculous.
-Pay. For the amount of work load they give you, they have the lowest starting salary. Only one they beat was Infinity.

    Advice to Management

Help your adjusters. Don't blame them for customers' complain calls. With the cut throat policy Bristol West are selling, they are doing the best they can.
Ease on the claim files. No other insurance company let their adjuster have that kind of pending files. If you need more adjuster, hire more adjusters.

    Pros

Hours 8-4:30 M-F, no weekends. Some of the people, jeans to work.

    Cons

High call volume, all about metrics, micro managed all day, office politics, nice and smile to your face then boom, pay isn't enough for amount of work, too many meetings, surveys, training needs to be worked on, higher people fresh out of college have no experience and lack professionalism, supervisors have their favorites, some employees can do what they want, get everything done before you leave for the day so there is not a backlog of work the next day, phone calls roll constantly, told to take as many calls as possible, do not put phone in aux only if needed, always being reminded it's non-standard insurance.

    Advice to Management

Do not micro manage, spend more time in the office, be more available to your team, proper training, less survey's, less favortism, treat everyone the same, stop acting like you are better than and above everyone, acknowledge for a job well done, hire people with past insurance experience, organize better, have a true open door policy without the fear of retaliation.

I worked at Bristol West full-time

    Pros

The benefits are probably the only positive factors which include: 3 weeks off during your first year, tuition reimbursement after 90 days and matching 401k at 6%.

    Cons

The job itself is very overwhelming which creates a stressful environment. If you take a vacation be ready to work the rest of the year to catch back up.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees which may reduce overall turnover. Learn to listen yo your employees and address concerns. Become proactive instead of reactive.

I have been working at Bristol West full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -40 hour M-F schedule
-Quarterly Company Sponsored Team Gatherings (off site)
-Some good teams, some bad. Dependent upon which team you're placed on

    Cons

-Pay is below industry average for the area
-Upward mobility is extremely limited (run more like a small company)
-Promotion is less about file quality, more about who likes you/high school politics

    Advice to Management

    - Multiple supervisors need replacing or significant training at minimum
-Pay employees proper compensation and less of them will leave for other companies

I have been working at Bristol West full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -The paychecks were actually cashable.

    Cons

-Male run office with main person having issues with orientation and race.
-No promotions unless you are part of the good ole boys club.
-Lots of employees are disenfranchised because of management attitude. Management has actually told employees, if you don't like it there, you can go work down the street.
-Promition of brown nosers and snitches.
-Most supervisors are micro managers who don't know how to manage conflict.

    Advice to Management

Please quit so the company could hire a manager who is an actual human being.

I have been working at Bristol West full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Great team environment; plenty of support from peers and supervisors.
-Management does a great job of keeping us together, support when needed, and assuring it is a great place to work
-exposure to multiple facets of the auto-claims world; more so than many other companies

    Cons

the ebb & flow of the claims volume does not always get handled well
-when the staffing is on the lower end, employees are handling more with inadequate resource---- expectations vary too much between supervisors

    Advice to Management

The company works better when it is adequately staffed. Employees get burned out when they are tasked with the jobs of multiple people.
