    Pros

BA was a company proud to be working for until IAG took over.

    Cons

IAG's drive for even greater shareholder value has eroded staff expertise by outsourcing.

I have been working at British Airways full-time

    Pros

Staff travel whilst available and providing you have enough service, and don't need to travel in school holidays

    Cons

Unfortunately it's not the company it used to be. There is a constant cost cutting culture. Redundancies are being made through out the airline and replacements are being made by offshore counterparts. The quality of the offshore replacements are poor and the remaining BA staff are trying to pick up the pieces. Morale is at an all time low and management are not interested in employees views, they just want to make the highest profit at any cost. Staff have to supply their own stationery such as pens and notebooks as BA no longer pays for this as part of one of the cost cutting exercises. If an external supplier visits the airline, the BA employee will be expected to pay for the suppliers coffee as there is no way to reclaim this back. There are also absolutely no promotion opportunities but they will expect you to work above your grade without the financial benefit.

    Advice to Management

Mistakes have been made, but it's not too late to gain control of the deteriorating service. Listen to the employees properly, stop looking at the outsourced counterparts with rose tinted glasses because they fit the part for costs right now. In the long term they will far outweigh the internal BA staff costs but if you don't rectify this soon there will be no BA staff left to sort out the problems caused by the inexperienced contractors. BA staff provide a lot of goodwill which you don't recognise and will never get from the external companies. You need to also think long and hard about who will train the contractors if you continue with your plan to make the staff redundant.

I have been working at British Airways full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

-Chance to develop your career and experience across a diversity of organisational functions (customer services, engineering, finance, marketing, IT, operations).
-Staff travel is good if you pick your dates of travel and destinations wisely (i.e don't expect to breeze onto a flight to Orlando/Barbados in peak season).
-Good work life balance compared with some companies.
-A truly fascinating industry. Still learning after many, many years. Some great people to work with across a diversity of departments.

    Cons

-Unless you make it well up what is becoming an increasingly flat structure (so there is a lot of competition for middle/senior mgmt roles), the money is average to reasonable at best. If you want to be rich quickly, you're probably looking in the wrong place.
-Can be a bit bureaucratic at times.
-A very cyclic industry. Aviation is normally first into any downturn, so pick your moment to make your move.

    Advice to Management

-Think strategically. Too much evidence of trying to keep the bean counters happy, and not enough focus on the customer. You can't keep cutting costs and expect to be able to sustain a high quality product.
