    - extremely high working hours, especially for finance guys

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good salary and bonus structure, some absolutely amazing people and a very interesting industry. Make connections as they will stand to you

    Cons

IT function has been on a complete cost cutting journey to the detriment of the service they can provide to the business. Headcount and promotion freeze in place as well as a travel ban for IT. CIO in role for a long time and the company is losing its best IT resources as a result of the current IT cost cutting strategy. Most people are now just there as they are hanging on for a redundancy-not a good environment. Rest of the business still has an International Assignment policy but IT want you to localise in lower cost markets without an international package (Malaysia, Indonesia)

    Advice to Management

Look at the market, the rest of the business and see what IT needs to do to properly support a global organisation -can't be done on bare bones

I worked at British American Tobacco as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Freedom through responsibility and good environment. Exceptional growth progression. Fantastic reward and recognition system but not for who works well.

    Cons

Many people will go toward show business to upgrade.
Tons of Bureaucracy is a heavy load everywhere.
The real jobs done are ignored but show business is rewarded.
Difficult to achieve Work / Life balance, no retention for new joiners. HR does not exist as a support and functional department.

    Advice to Management

You should reward the real jobs done and avoid show business upgrading and favouritisms.
Please fire all the HR department.

I have been working at British American Tobacco (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Very young and dynamic culture
    Paying fairly well
    Good number of international opportunities
Opportunity to grow with a lot of responsibility

    Cons

Very political culture - being "politically correct" is more important than anything - people are not open to feedback and employees are afraid to say what is right
Promotions are not objective, they are based on personal relationships
    High performers are not appreciated
There is almost no talent management - high turnover of the people
Weak hiring process - new recruits are not capable or not fitting to the professional business
There is no inspiring leader - Senior management lack many leadership capabilities and understanding of reality
Unbalanced work-load - some people are overloaded some have almost nothing to do

    Advice to Management

Get inspiring leaders and value your people, not politics
