company is running on low budget mode. can not afford to pay like usual anymore.

    Pros

Great atmosphere, career opportunities offered to ambitious people, reasonable to great compensation, great people around wherever you go in terms of location or department

    Cons

Politics seem to be more important than anything, stakeholder management takes lots of time and slows decisions, the good part of it is the democratic aspect everybody knows and agrees, the downside is that sometimes is exageratted and overrated in disfavour of results

    Advice to Management

Speed up decisional process by trusting and empoweringnpeople in a genuine way

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large Company, pretending to be implementing large global projects.

    Cons

Quite low level of skills in IT and its management, most plucked from shop-floor just to avoid redundancies. Intolerant of knowledgeable IT professionals. Few departments full of gangs of fake IT consultants with fake experience, working as freelancers and milking money.

    Advice to Management

As long as you can bribe the government and sell overpriced poison, you know you have to just pretend that your IT systems matter. In reality you will just do fine without an IT system.

    Pros

Job experience that can prepare you for the cruel life reality.

    Cons

Only one quality has been considered for a right one, political correctness, keep your mouth shut and if asked always say what is expected to hear.

    Advice to Management

Instead of doing everything to keep your chair consider to really change something or implement solutions to ensure company growth in a shrinking market.

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time

    Pros

    Great salary, package and benefits

    Good commitment to training courses

Some opportunity for overseas travel (has reduced a lot recently)

    Cons

    Out of control politics -

Progression entirely dependent on relationships rather than performance/results

    Bullying is rife

Sexism is rife - especially in sales dept

If you enjoy this type of environment, this is the company for you.

    Advice to Management

The politics stems from a top heavy management structure which causes empire building and in-fighting. A much more streamlined operation would remove much of this and lead to greater efficiencies.

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time

    Pros

Big brands, big company, big opportunities potentially.

    Cons

All about brands and $Bucks and shareholders. $crew the people if their faces do not fit!

    Advice to Management

Senior managers need a tighter reign on some junior managers who lie and cheat and get away with it, some get caught and are allowed to leave without action....and l hear then go to represent them in legal proceedings which is morally wrong when they lie in court as did HR. Shame on you BAT!

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a truly multinational and multicultural company
It is a very successfu company
It gives very good salary and benefits

    Cons

In a few occasions, it felt like the company was taking decisions on employees roles and career moves without really consulting the employees, just working on the assumption that if you are well paid, you should accept everything

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

BATA has one of the most comprehensive training programs available. It's an 8 week induction that takes you through everything you will need to know. Good experience can be gained in this industry.

    Cons

The internal culture of the organization is nothing short of absolute poison. If you decide to apply or accept a position be prepared you are entering a highly toxic environment where the boys club rule like the mafia.

    Advice to Management

Remove the toxic leaders in senior roles,

    Pros

Good Salary and benefits. Lots of training opportunities.

    Cons

Very political and hostile environment. Work life balance is terrible. Lots of restrictions around tobacco marketing so there is only so much you can learn. Your development really depends on who your boss is.

    Cons

    Poor Leadership Management
    Career value and progression

    Advice to Management

I once was proud to work for this business, but like many others, chose to leave and take redundancy to leave rather than stay. The work environment and behaviours are not professional. People are in roles with questionable experience and capability all because of their alignment of one senior manager. The behaviouirs and environment is toxic and unprofressional. You know this, it was reported in Your Voice survey. The way you manage is to get rid of anyone who challenges the behaviours and hire new who will just follow the leader blindly.
