I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great reward package
    Great colleagues
    Business is doing well

    Cons

Policies and practices are good on paper, but not always followed through. A lot of time is spent on talent management without a visible benefit from it.
Line management can be a hit and miss: some are good and some just manage upwards.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking about diversity and start acting on it. Don't expect everyone to fit in the same mould!
Pay more attention on leadership: how people manage their teams and not how they manage their managers!

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Global footprint (180 markets), excellent opportunities to grow professionally
    Very competitive salaries and rewards
    Great people to work with

    Cons

HQ is very political and often lacking connection with market reality, bad balance of rewarding and frustrating experiences
It is a declining industry and BAT’ ability to innovate in emerging substitute categories is yet to be seen

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

BAT offers Development Opportunities, The possibility to learn from a true multinational, it’s complexity can be challenging but for those willing to develo is a great Global exposure, Good Reward package and benefits

    Cons

As any other big company there are too many Politics. Over the years has become too corporate, constant pressure and work/life balance is not ideal.

    Advice to Management

Grateful for the opportunities and professional growth which brought me to where I am today. I was made redundant and even under these difficult circumstances BAT takes good care of its people. After leaving, the skills and experience acquired landed me a good and well paid job but not all is perfect and like in any other environment, continuous budget cuts is leading to 1 person doing the job of 2 if not 3. Pressure is mounting, unhappiness all around and over the years BAT is loosing that great sense of family and cool culture I once knew. The Top leadership behave as Gods and rightfully their position allows them to do that but wouldn’t it be inspiring and motivating to observe such Senior level engaging their people, specially their teams? Thus still remains a great company to work for.

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Restaurant, facilities and rooftop (if you are based in London)
    - Career change possibilities
    - Best people around
    - Benefits and bonus
    - Work with people from all around the World

    Cons

    - Could be less formal (like casual Fridays) and improve some of the processes to speed up simple tasks
    - Hard to understand how to make everything works in the beginning. Simple things like having your desk phone ready or access to the network folders can take a while.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the job, it is good to know we have some of the best people in the market around!

I worked at British American Tobacco as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is high and benefits good, the pension is very good.

    Cons

strange culture, not collaborative, the management have terrible leadership skills and do not work with contractors well. Male dominated and a bullying culture, I felt isolated.

I worked at British American Tobacco as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and superb restaurant. F1 team at the time which was very exciting. Good people to work with and enjoy a coffee with at the in house Starbucks.

    Cons

Obviously smoking is not an ideal product to be promoting and this can play on ones conscience. Senior management could be aloof and create an us and them culture.

    Advice to Management

    Be more inclusive.

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people, knowledgable company, old set of managers always looked after the staff, good systems to work
Team members that stuck out for you and stuck together

    Cons

New management only in it for themselves
    Bad pay
Work being done has no credibility to it
Racism and bulling apparent in all departments especially the sales team
People steal your ideas and pass it off as their own
    No career progression
Always want more and more from for nothing
No appreciation for the work that you have done
    No flexibility
Huge turnover rate of around 60% in the company that alone says something about the company

    Advice to Management

Leave and actually put someone in charge who's knows what they are doing
