    Negative Outlook

I have been working at British Council India full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very powerful brand name; Seemingly structured and processe driven organisation. Wide variety of people from very varied backgrounds working together.

    Cons

Extremely beaurocratic; very difficult for an external professional person from the corporate culture to settle into. Exceedingly poor HR practcies( arbitrary changes to BC global policies- work from home; delays in HR communication- eg, probation, processes, poor response time) and the ever quoted Organisational redesign has clearly not worked. Recruitment process is very peculiar;- on joining and after a few months...

    Advice to Management

Clean up the HR lot Remove the elitist policies( country appointed staff & UK appointed staff)- eg, flexible working/ working from home Do another OD and truly clean up the old lot . The balance of old vs new is clearly not working.

    Pros

its the world's known organisation, an association of UK. International training opportunities, chances to fly abroad, 9-5 working if your boss is happy with you. unlimited holidays if you have good bonding with your boss. Extra income from travel if you have good coordination with your boss. Extra income if you can bring your known vendors in the system and share the profits with all. as long as you and your supervisor...

    Cons

Senior Indian staffs are biased and UK staffs are blind towards them. The culture is full of politics. No ambitious and hard working person ever grow in the organisation. Other organisations do not encourage Ex BC staffs to hire. Also, the staffs are involved in unethical score increase in IELTS, CFA and ACCA examination and everyone share the pie of the cake. Hence its very difficult to survive in the system if you...

    Advice to Management

UK management should not be blind and should listen to the staffs at the lower level as well. Should not be blind towards fraud happening in the India team. Because directors are only appointed for 2-3 years hence they play safe to get a clean exit from the country. The company should appoint an ombudsperson to look in any issue who should be unbiased like American companies. The company should keep revolving people...
