      Pros

Culture diversity; friendly and professional colleagues; good working environment supporting staff needs for family care

      Cons

Performance management and evaluation lacking transparency- especially for senior management teams

      Advice to Management

It would have been much better if SLT leaders contribute more to business development which generates actual monetary values rather than producing good photos for reports.

I worked at British Council full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Good work environment with consultative approach to issues

      Cons

Does not appreciate local knowledge of market and relies on what people say in the UK about Africa

      Advice to Management

Ensure expatriate staff are experts on subject matter and not posted for the sake of filing up a position. Senior most staff should not feel threatened by local staff who know the region

      Negative Outlook
      Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at British Council full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Work/life balance if you are not senior management Flexible working patterns OK work environment Work is not technically demanding or demanding really (con or pro?)

      Cons

Flowery misleading job descriptions often oversell the jobs - in reality the work is quite dumbed down - a project coordinator is really assistant level, project manager is really a project coordinator Very few people in the UK office understand ODA work or have any real experience of overseas work so the technical quality of the work done is very low/fluffy. Work in a development NGO if you want to learn or do real...
