I have been working at British Gas

    Pros

Plenty of support Company van Company pay for tools Good benefits schemes

    Cons

Not competitive pay Management always expect more Unfair bonus scheme Work/life balance getting worse

    Advice to Management

Bonus scheme is set out to give you the least amount possible. Average pay for smart metering at British gas is 23k Competitors (Sse, OVO, Siemens) pay £28k+

    I worked at British Gas

    Pros

Really good salary for customer service. Clearing 1400 a month and then your bonus every quarter for just doing your job would take you to almost 1700. Good benefits, can get things like macs or smartphones through the tech one and you save like 20 pound a month Cheap canteen with sometimes really good food Quite a lot of absence allowed until you go to a formal meeting

    Cons

Customers. Usually when working in customer service it is something people choose to buy however with gas and electricity EVERYONE needs it and if someone has no electricity you're gonna hear them. Constantly had junkies phoning up asking for money which we actually had to give them as something that was introduced as policy just before I left. Seasonal so literally impossible to get holidays in the winter. Ombudsman regulations were a total pain to keep up with. Pandering to literally whatever the customer wants. Impossible to find management who would be willing to do a manager callback which they HAVE to do. Literally no progression available apart from Team Leader or going to different teams, no rise in pay for changing teams just different workload. If you were off due to absence they would chase you up constantly even if you had given a reason why you'd been off for a few days and it was valid. They would phone you every single day without fail to check up and ask you to come in. Terrible shifts, often 3 days of a week however on days in would be starting at 10, finishing at 8 and due to the fact it is in Granton not getting home until around 9, going to bed and then repeat.

Actually do your job instead of pandering.

I worked at British Gas full-time

    Pros

Excellent opportunities for career development, prioritisation for internal candidates when looking for new roles, good benefits and dedicated workforce in the services business

    Cons

Too many reorganisations, too much politics, PowerPoint is king and sometimes lack of parking and desk space was an issue.

    Advice to Management

Aim for stability and reward those that deliver

    I worked at British Gas

    Pros

Good benefits and nice office spaces

    Cons

Very unprofessional management. Workload keeps increasing while numbers are reduced. Everyone is supposed to play a game where you look right, talk right and behave right, like Stepford employees. Management has no problem ignoring policy when it suits them. Very panic driven too, an environment where senior management are treated like gods and never questioned.

    Advice to Management

Live your values as you tell everyone else to do all the time.

I have been working at British Gas full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are generally very talented. Facilities are also good, including a gym, cafeteria and coffee shops. Also a shuttle bus from the station is provided. Generally the sallery offered is competitive. Good benefits package.

    Cons

Hard work not always recognised. Decisions made at top level are not always filtered down. Process's can hinder creativity. Too many project managers and not enough people doing things. PDP talked about allot but not always actioned.

    Advice to Management

Personal growth should be talked about more. More room for internal progression. Simplify process's to get things done quicker. Consider possible failure as not being a reason not to do something.
