I have been working at British Heart Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The organisation is constantly looking to improve it's performance and try new ventures.

There is freedom to go about your job in the way that you think is best for the charity.

    Cons

    Little training on offer
Very London focused, would have I love to London Head Office (GLH) to progress.

I have been working at British Heart Foundation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The BHF is a place that's always open to new ideas and trying a new approach. The leadership team, and other people in the organisation, actively encourage everyone to innovate and to aim higher.

    Cons

The innovative spirit sometimes crashes against the challenge of being a large charity with systems that take a long time to work around, and old hierarchies. I know that lots of large organisations have the same problem, but it can be frustrating to be caught between the two worlds.

    Advice to Management

The more the walls of hierarchy are broken down, the better things will become. We're already heading in the right direction, but an honest respect of the views and work of people right across the organisation will help us all achieve more, sooner.

I have been working at British Heart Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have had great career progression at the British Heart Foundation, having progressed twice since joining 18 months ago.
Since starting, I've been empowered and supported to take my career where I want it to go.
Where the charity has shortfalls in maturity, the senior management team have a great vision for the organisation, and always look to the experience of its employees to grow.
    Positive:
    - Flexible working hours (work from home once per week)
    - Great cause which the charity keeps you involved
    - Experience with working with the retail team and volunteers
    - Lots of training; career progression supported by management
    - Strong support and focus on the well being of employees (physical or mental)

    Cons

    - Slow decision making
    - Immaturity in some areas (which are being worked on)
    - HR still establishing career paths to fully support development

    Advice to Management

Continue to mature the organisation in areas it needs. HR to push career paths across directorates to support those who aren't sure on where to take their career.

I have been working at British Heart Foundation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast paced, very challenging, always changing and helping save lives

    Cons

Many changes being introduced over a short period of time

    Advice to Management

Not like your normal mainstream retail operation. All the usual retail challenges with a few bits added on. This role is not for everyone, you will need to be resilient and not afraid to challenge your self

I have been working at British Heart Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Flexible working encouraged
    - Culture of listening to feedback and actively working to remedy
    - Improving internal processes, becoming more mature for an organisation of it's size
    - Lots of opportunities to get involved in large scale projects, initiatives and events
    - Great benefits package for the sector

    Cons

    - Offices are overcrowded and fairly dated (though they are working on this)
    - Many teams don't work closely enough together creating silo's
    - Leadership priorities are fairly vague, with hundreds of projects/initiatives happening simultaneously it can become hard to understand where effort should truly be focused

    Advice to Management

Keep the push on maturity across directorates, though help your employees understand where the key priorities lie.

I have been working at British Heart Foundation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Genuinely caring employer absolutely commited to their cause and the people they work with.

Working here you are constantly surrounded by people who are passionate about what they do to deliver better results for the BHF because they believe in what we do.

Team is very much led from the front by example and is a pleasure to work here.

If you're looking for career progression or development the only limitations on it here are the ones you set yourself.

    Cons

I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about working here
