    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Good bonus plan and stock plans contribute to great compensation.
Leading edge technologies and products make the work interesting and rewarding.

    Cons

Poor job security. Bottom line financial performance today is the overwhelming priority over investing in research and development for tomorrow. Company has poor support structure for employees.

    Advice to Management

Management has very clear goals that are driven top down by financials. It's sad to see the growth potential of successful businesses sacrificed for short term profits.

    Pros

Broadcom USED TO BE a great company, forward thinking, intelligent people, productive / fun environment, concerned with doing the right thing, but the executive staff betrayed the employees who worked so hard to build the company by selling out to Avago.

    Cons

Understand that "Broadcom Ltd" is not Broadcom. It is Avago with a stolen, unearned brand duct-taped to the door. If you are thinking of working here, read the reviews of Avago. That is where you would be working.

    Advice to Management

May the millions you made from betraying the trust placed in you burn in your heart so you never know another nights peaceful sleep and may Karma bestow upon the Ducks a never ending losing streak.

I have been working at Broadcom full-time

    Pros

Good compensation even though they keep reducing equity allocations, flexible working hours, awesome vacation policy. Very competitive company. Generally makes wise business decisions. Fast to address issues...usually.

    Cons

Long hours. Company is very hardware focused. As a software engineer work is not very interesting or challenging. Software engineers tend to be viewed as 2nd class citizens. Majority of time is spent testing and can be very repetitive. Difficult to find opportunities to grow either technically or professionally.

I have been working at Broadcom full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The pay is fair. It actually pays average people too much and not enough for high performers. The work-life balance is really different from group to group. Promotion opportunities are good, if you like a fancier title every couple of years.

    Cons

No accountability for upper management. They screwed up so many key decisions but the people should be fired are still up there making ridiculous amount of money. Vacation policy is ridiculous. You supposedly can request unlimited vacation each year. But if you are a responsible person care about the projects you are working on, you would not get any because you do not have time to take vacation.

    Advice to Management

The culture needs to change to reward people delivering the results and punish the people who screwed up. This should start with upper management.

I worked at Broadcom full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great people to work with!

    Cons

No vision, leadership and accountability at the executive level!

    Advice to Management

Vision and leadership is the key to success!
Outsourcing is the game for losers; the executive shall take a lesson from Apple's success!
Regulate excessive executive compensation; even at their level the compensation shall be performance based!
Deal with workplace favoritism; start from the executive level!

I have been working at Broadcom full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have learned a lot in the cellular division at Broadcom. I -like many others- got the opportunity to go beyond the initial assignments and learn about many system aspects. Internal transfers are easy if not encouraged. Compensation is OK, used to be much better.

    Cons

The cellular business got killed by the Beceem acquisition. The VP at Broadcom was buddy with the CEO of Beceem. After 3 years of going nowhere, Broadcom eventually acquired renesas but CEO decided to pull the plug after 9 months. Way to much politics now and those who screwed up never faced the consequence of their acts.
Titles are very much inflated and meaningless. Those who just get a free ride get the same recognition as those who do the work.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of people who supported the acquisition of Beceem. Get the HR to do their job: identify the key talent, keep them motivated and retain them!

I worked at Broadcom full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Can get good technical work depending on what BU and group you belong to

    Cons

Overall benefit has diminished over the years. It is no longer what it was known for in terms of compensation and technological advances

I have been working at Broadcom full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Engineering-focus makes decisions a lot faster
    - Easy to get access to tools needed to develop products
    - Exposure to fast-growing Mobile market

    Cons

    - HR policies need to be more formalized and driven
    - Company needs to move from "startup" mode as it grows
    - Company needs to invest in community relationships and charity

    Advice to Management

    - Communication to lower levels needs to be through formal means, rather than cofee-machine talk
    - Invest in development processes and soft skills development
    - Invest in Community, outside of Science & Technology. e.g. reward volunteering, reading to kids
