    Pros

Before the Avago era, Broadcom still invests a lot on the cutting-edge technologies and positions itself as the industry leader. Individual Contributers (engineers) are treated well and have lots of growing opportunities if you are at the right org./team.

    Cons

Everything will be very different after Avago; no one except the executives know exactly what is going on.

    Pros

    Work with cutting edge technologies

    Cons

Poor work-life balance. No long time R&D vision by the CEO. He only cares about the bottom line. Your office will be closed down if it as less than 100 employees.

It's such a great company on the outside, but I don't feel that way on the inside.

    Pros

Projects are interesting and you get to help develop cutting edge technologies. Everyone working on the projects really knows their stuff and come from many different backgrounds which provides opportunities to work with all sorts of interesting people. It's a large corporation and has the ups and downs of one such as great benefits but also has a high amount of segregation between levels. The majority of the employees are engineers, a lot more than similar companies. Shared offices are better than cubicles.

    Cons

The pay was decent but now it's no longer good. All sorts of new technologies and products are being created but it feels as if it has no impact on how well the company is doing. I feel as if I have no opportunity for growth or promotion. Work load will fluctuate between extreme highs and lows. No more free drinks, subsidized foods or free lunches.

Smart and driven people work here.

Jan 17, 2013 - Senior Staff Test Engineer in San Diego, CA

    Pros

Cutting edge technology and chips in many of the hottest products out on the market. Most people are friendly and care about what they do.

    Cons

Hard to advance, and management is unforgiving. Always too much work to do, and always seemingly short on resources. Also vacation policy is horrible. Salaried workers get "unlimited vacations" but the caveat is your manager must approve of the time off. Great if you have a cool manager. Sucks if your manager is a workaholic and disapproves vacation requests most times.

    Great place to work but...

    Pros

Broadcom is an engineering focused company with very little frivolous management layers in the organization. You get to work on some of the most cutting edge technology and shape the future. Broadcom has some of the best engineering talent and people tend to stick around for along time.

    Cons

Compensation. It is way below the industry norms. Management, for some reason, seems completely unconcerned about this issue. The vacation policy sucks. Because people to stick around for a long time, there is very little upward mobility for the relatively new hires.

    Good place to work

    Pros

Broadcom is a leader in communication technologies and in most businesses it participate in. The company has a stable and winning culture. Compensation is competitive and hard work is rewarded well. Managers are very considerate and pleasure to work with. Great chance to work with the cutting edge technologies and the leaders in consumer and enterprise products. Broadcom is well respected outside and hence can be a good experience in your resume. Management receives the feedback well and try to address it. Generally Broadcom policies are very supportive of its employees. Cafeteria in Irvine is pretty good and the price is quite subsidized.

    Cons

Broadcom is a large company and the experience can differ from division to division. It has assimilated a large number of startups and has now grown to a large size. The start up mentality does not scale with the current size and the complexity of products. Work is bit chaotic and development can be haphazard. Skill sets of software engineers are tilted more towards hardware verification than creating well designed products. Some of the customers can be very demanding. Vacation is lesser than other companies of this size.

    Broadcom pre merger with Avago

    Pros

Work is on cutting edge technology and the overall group of Co workers is with high quality. Further, the mid level management has many very good technical people, who get technical issues and know how to set prioritis.

    Cons

It seems whike the management is very good for technical and projects, it's less good with people. Further, in last few years bonus and RSU were on significant decline.

    Pros

Good bonus plan and stock plans contribute to great compensation. Leading edge technologies and products make the work interesting and rewarding.

    Cons

Poor job security. Bottom line financial performance today is the overwhelming priority over investing in research and development for tomorrow. Company has poor support structure for employees.
