I have been working at Broadway Technology full-time

    Pros

The team is wicked smart. The core platform is mature, stable and rock-solid. The culture is great and the people are super nice. If you like a challenge it can be a great fit.

    Cons

The company is growing fast and hasn't had much success bringing in middle managers that fit the culture, so employees don't get enough feedback unless they seek it out. Finance is a high-stress industry, and while developers are generally insulated from that the account managers and consultants should be prepared for that. Hiring amazing technical people is hard so there are never enough people to staff every need.

    Advice to Management

Continue investing in QA and devops. Since hiring into leadership roles hasn't been working out so well, work on promoting from within and provide coaching for the new responsibilities instead.

    Pros

This is a decent growing financial company. Provides the youngsters with lot of exposure to financial markets. Lot of young people from MIT, Cornell and Stanford working there. You will get to work in lot of different financial instruments like bonds, equities, euro-bonds etc. Founders are nice technical people who with the young and smart people from MIT and Cornell are driving the culture of this company. The biggest perk this company gives is the flexible work hours with ability to work remotely (even from a different country). They arrange lot of nice after-office parties where the employees can interact each other after work(thanks to the event manager). People who works here, most of them are very down to earth. The culture is largely cultivated by the smart people from MIT and Cornell. This company takes it lot of interns and give them exposure to the financial industry. Their software framework TOC is highly scalable and the CEO and CTO together had done a very good work of developing that technology from scratch. This company provides free Lunch with option to order from any restaurant you like and there are lot of snacks, sodas and alcohol in the kitchen all time. The event manager takes care of the employee birthdays and order nice snacks for everyone in the office to celebrate the birthdays. Also they arrange for the annual get together parties where people from other offices will be flown to Austin or NYC or Waterloo to interact as a team. They have very good client base out of USA. The sales team is really good and they are down to earth.

    Cons

This company acts like a temporary stop for people going to Google or Facebook. Ambitious people are not going to stick around because there is zero chance of career growth here. Mostly you will stuck with what you have been doing for years without promotions. People who cannot get into Google or Facebook stays around for a while until they find their dream job. Talent and Culture is non-existent, senior people have started leaving the company because of severe disagreement with Talent & Culture and is mostly because of meddling in their promotions or work flexibility. Most of the time the project plans are aggressive and there is no-organized team work. Somehow individual contributors gets the project past the deadline than a team effort. In that case hiring experienced people are more helpful because they can start working in no time. This company spends lot of money on fresh graduates, but none of them seems to continue after gaining experience. That is a serious money loss and bad HR strategy. Also even if this company claims to be open about complaints and suggestions, please beware of going to Talent and Culture with your complaints and suggestions, It can be twisted and used against you.

    Advice to Management

Keep the current momentum. Thanks for the hard work of CEO & CTO. Lot of good things seems to be working out for this company in recent past except the turnaround and Talent & Culture. We would suggest you to conduct total anonymous surveys conducted by third party web-sites to get honest feedback from people what they think of your Human Resources strategies rather than depending on HR department to tell you what you want to hear. I would also suggest you include your ex-employees also in the anonymous surveys to maximize the genuine feedback about your HR policies. People will not share the truth until it is totally confidential and anonymous.

    Pros

Management is open about the companies finances, senior management all seemed to genuinely care about the employees, good comp/benefits, people are pleasant to work with, very profitable/stable financially.

    Cons

Customer driven development process leads to a lot of short term perspective and mucho technical debt, it was never clear there was any long-term vision for improving the software looking past the current round of customer SOWs. Nobody owned the build/test systems (a "shared responsibility"), with the result you'd expect. Lots of the work involves integrating with (broken and/or insane) customer and third party systems.

    Advice to Management

100% customer success is a great goal but it should not come by continuously compromising the software development process, in the end you pay the piper.

    Pros

High compensation, depending on your location. Decent work/life balance. Good benefits and perks.

    Cons

The company claims to operate as a meritocracy that fosters employees' independence, but favoritism dominates the culture and the potential of career advancement. Management is often poor or nonexistent.

I have been working at Broadway Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I've been at Broadway for many years and have been pleased to see its admirable core values remain essentially unchanged as the size of the company has increased. My colleagues remain simply astonishing. They're very smart *and* very good technically, plus they're a lot of fun to be around. The work we do is both challenging and interesting, and you have a real impact on how things turn out. At the same time, Broadway is extremely flexible in allowing you to manage your own time. We work hard on difficult projects, but the stress level is remarkably low.

    Cons

If you want to hide out in a company that puts 40 developers on each project and you write 100 lines of code a year and just sort of coast along, then Broadway isn't for you. On the other hand, if that scenario sounds like a nightmare to you, then Broadway could be an excellent fit.

    Advice to Management

Keep the great culture and environment the same as we continue to grow.

    Pros

Driven folks with focus on delivering the best in the breed software. Leadership has a vision to grow the company keeping the core values of fairness and excellence intact. Senior folks are always willing to lend guidance and everyone is fun to work with. Austin riverside office location is fabulous.

    Cons

Lack of bars close by to go for Happy hours after work. Had to think really hard to come up with this one..

    Advice to Management

Diversify by expanding product offerings outside of Finance industry.

I have been working at Broadway Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

We do very serious work, in a very serious city, commute next to very serious people. But, we're working together in a fun environment with fun people and interesting problems. The office here is always a dynamic place full of characters and with fascinating people to interact with.

    Cons

Operations can be a be a bit disorganized and chain of command can be a little unclear, but that's part of the price of a flat organizational structure.

I have been working at Broadway Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Broadway is awesome because of the super smart, friendly, interesting and motivated people who work here. Great people along with our company culture and office space, make for a truly enjoyable work environment.
The management team is stacked with incredibly smart, talented and trustworthy people who are dedicated to fairness and transparency. You can tell they all care about the well-being of employees.
Plus we have awesome perks: free lunch every day, fully stocked kitchen, fun office events and parties

    Cons

The company is growing very quickly and experiencing the usual challenges that face startups as they pass the 100-employee mark. If you want to be told exactly what to do or if you're not motivated to take responsibility for your own career growth, then you might not enjoy the Broadway culture. On the flip-side, Broadway is still in early stages and there's unlimited potential to come in and be a big contributor.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!
