I have been working at Brocade (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people in the Minnesota office. Decent pay and benefits.

    Cons

Leadership primed the company for sale by leaning out every organization to bare bones, as well as out sourcing. With Broadcom buying the SAN business and everything else being sold off to the highest bidder, who knows what will become of "Brocade". It's sad to see a company be victim of a sellout. Hopefully the IP side stays as one piece.

    Advice to Management

    Enjoy the golden parachute

I worked at Brocade full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great People, made lifetime friends - Very grateful to have had the opportunity to learn, grow and show value being a part of what was really a great team of professionals for the most part.
I knew the end was near since the revenue just never took the jump anticipated. We all worked really hard though. Good Luck to my X Brocade family where many will be looking for new jobs soon with the Broadcom acquisition around the corner.

    Cons

After 10 years, 6 managers, You get 1 manager who ends your career. HR is NEVER on employee side. A manager can write you up just because they dont like you "Bad Attitude" and that will be the end to a career with so much work, dedication down the drain just like that. Its definitely been a life changing experience

    Advice to Management

The upper management did a good job of keeping things moving, but the ultimate goal was to make Brocade attractive to sell and never really looked at what was going on in each department. Reviews should be 360. Listen to the employess too, they may know something that you don't. Thank you for all the wonderful years and experience, Brocade family will definitely be missed.

    Pros

    - Highly competitive salaries
    - Good U.S. benefits
    - Corporate match

    Cons

Very bureaucratic. Promotions and recognition is limited to those who are in their headquarters in San Jose. The company will suck the blood, sweat and tears out of you and does not give credit where credit is due. The only way to get promoted is if you know the "right" people. Senior leaders are fake and not trustworthy, especially HR.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the people who are doing the real work and not the ones who kiss up to corporate headquarters.

    - Long hours, come home and get on to calls with India every single day

    Advice to Management

Emerging software product line is moving Brocade into the future
    Good work/life balance

Hire only friends; no diversity in IT
    Lack of leadership

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk and show it's important to be a grown-up company.

I have been working at Brocade (More than 3 years)

    Pros

pay is just okay; not great at all. That's the best I can come up with. No real other reason to push hard; they don't support or listen anyway.

    Cons

    - decisions made at top then supporting data is garnered. ALOT of politics.
    - in 2.5 years I've had my accounts and territory changed 3x. quotas are a dart throw.
    - paychecks don't explain how they arrived at your commission and management is totally unresponsive to inquiries or requests for customer help. ...they drive the ambitiion out of you eventually

    Advice to Management

Quick fixes are just that - band aids. Stop Challenger already - its lame. respond to your engineers - PM, Marketing, Sales Management, SE Management....

    Pros

Subsidized cafe, central location, nice campus

    Cons

If you are not in every meeting, your fall from grace is sudden aka Nothing ever gets done
Empire building by VPs, relegation of technology into yesteryear and a downward stock spiral.

    Advice to Management

Talk less and learn to walk the talk. Get the execs to connect with their organization versus hobnobbing among themselves

I have been working at Brocade full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

CEO is great. Good benefits and flexible. Job opportunity - unless you are in marketing.

    Cons

Marketing team. Unless you are personal friends or on the inside, you won't go anywhere. Lots of sucking up. Friends are promoted, not talent.

    Advice to Management

Raise the level of marketing leadership team to the level of other leaders in the company. Lots of talk about leadership but no direction. CEO is a good leader so it has to be there.
