I have been working at Brodart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The job itself is easy and you're left alone and not nagged constantly by management. The free books are awesome.

    Cons

The environment is loud and very dirty. Freezing in the winter, scorching in the summer. So many stupid rules like no listening to music or talking. The rules for cataloging are wishy washy and you can get a different answer for the same question two different days. They don't care about their employees at all.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like humans and not numbers.

I have been working at Brodart full-time

    Pros

It changed so much in the past few years. Anymore you make a mistake bam you're wrote up for stupid things. They don't care about the employees

    Cons

It's a paycheck but not worth it

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees, stop treating them like they don't mean anything

    Pros

Great loyal coworkers willing to pick up the slack. Convenient location. Some core hour freedom. Built some great friendships while there.

    Cons

Uncaring upper management, unrealistic attendance policy, no appreciation for employees, some salaries really low, constantly trying to save a buck

    Advice to Management

Be as loyal to your employees as they are to you. Show appreciation. Give a RAISE. Stop taking everything away and listen to your people!

    Pros

    Fellow employees are team players

    Cons

Supply chain management skills SEVERELY lacking.
Worst and dirtiest warehoue ive ever worked in. Yes...catalogers work in a filthy moldy warehouse!
Job description of varying temps is all lies. No AC in summer so its humid and hotter than outside with no windows.
Winter is even hotter with a dysfunctional system that blows stale dry heat of over 90 degrees! It cannot be regulated. Either full on or full off which means you freeze.
Lots of people get sick due to above conditions and have passed out in summer and winter!
All those job postings are not due to growth. Its from people leaving...LOTS of them. The only people staying are the ones ready to retire.

    Advice to Management

Instead ofdoing the outside of thebuilding and trapping the heat in to make it look pretty to outsiders you shouldvd cleaned the disgusting insides or just openeda new steel fabricated building where all is on one floor. Wouldve cost less than putting z dress on the outside to make outsiders THINK Brodart was kmproving while its getting worse. Get a clue. Wighout us youre nothing.

I have been working at Brodart full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The work is stimulating and there is a loyal customer base.

    Cons

Inflexibility regarding scheduling and time-off. Feeling like you are just a cog in the wheel.

    Advice to Management

Consider your employees as people and not just the bottom line. You've lost many good employees with extensive knowledge and they haven't been replaced (or if they have it's been at much lower cost to you).

  8. "Inconsistent decision making by upper management has eroded a good company"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Great group of co workers dedicated to providing a great product

    Cons

Upper management treats employees like a liability not an asset. Heavy top down management that takes care of its own while ignoring and diminishing employee benefits.

    Advice to Management

Reinvest in people. Partner with creative and visionary vendors that can develop new products in a dynamic marketplace.

    Pros

Employees desire to do what is right for the employees

    Cons

    lack of consistency in management
lack of consistency in human resources
lack of an apparent overall plan from leadership
    maintenance and upkeep of building

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. They actually do the work every day and know more than you think they do. Actually appreciate your employees; your words or so-called concern are empty.
