I worked at Brook Street full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They have a fantastic training program. Unfortunately, they did not use this training for their managers.

    Cons

They essentially started in NYC as a start-up, backed by Manpower. They hired way too many employees and had too much overhead to start. Also, they hired three branch managers, and brought one over from the UK. The manager from the UK knew what she was doing, two of the managers they hired were good, but the ONLY ONE they kept was HORRIBLE. She treated the employees horribly, was lazy (always texting and taking personal calls) and she knows nothing about the staffing industry.

    Advice to Management

Treat the employees fairly and like humans! No wonder you failed in NYC and Boston.

    Pros

They have a good promotion, and commission structure, if you are a top seller

    Cons

You have to make to many cold calls, expected to call 50 potential clients. You can't canvas sales in the field.

    Advice to Management

Work better with new sales associates. Provide feedback to associates, and encourage them.

I worked at Brook Street as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Able to find positions very quickly. Quick to respond and communicate with candidates.

    Cons

High client turnover. Weekly pay, instead of monthly. No rollover on holiday accrued. Little visible effort to aid candidates in converting temp/contractual engagements to full time employment.

    Advice to Management

    Shorter probation period.
Holiday time rollover for loyal candidates.

I have been working at Brook Street as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Some Brookstreet are generally fast when getting you a job.

    Cons

Being on a contract with Brookstreet can be a pain. They take more than weeks to find you a job. I have been unemployed for more than a month. They take forever to get back to emails and to return calls.

    Advice to Management

Please advise all recruiters to make sure their employee is not out of work, especially to those who chase up everyday to get a work. Need to speed up with returning emails and calls!

I worked at Brook Street full-time

    Pros

Freedom to get on with your job in the way that you want to as long as you get the results you need.

    Cons

Dishonest management, incentives that don't materialise, few career progression prospects. Salary on the low end of the scale, little to no perks.

    Advice to Management

Be more honest and up-front with your employees. Reward them in a meaningful way. Change is often a good thing so there's no reason to hide it.

I worked at Brook Street full-time

    Pros

    - Easy to access location
    - Open office with windows
    - Manchester specific contracts/employers

    Cons

    - Consultants not always willing to discuss job in detail
    - Consultants not showing understanding of disability legislation
    - Complaints by former employees of clients not taken into account

    Advice to Management

Review your compliance procedures, review your interview procedures and attend disability training for dealing with clients/employees/employers to better understand what is meant by Reasonable Adjustment and by a client having a Disability.

I worked at Brook Street part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I can't really come up with any !

    Cons

They have a poor selection of roles, they offer unfair salaries to staff, whilst overcharging many clients by alot more than the temps get paid.

    Advice to Management

Please ensure that temps get a fair shake and are not underpaid and unsupported. Everything is always in the favour of the clients as you believe that is where your revenue comes from. But without temps you have no service to charge for, so please remember to value your temps equally at least.

    Pros

Great team to work with, all get on really well and all relaxed

    Cons

Poor salary and impossible to achieve bonus structure. Training days are there to make you feel like you are back at school and the feedback from them are extremely one-sided

I worked at Brook Street full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good training, but the trainer will treat you like a child, the training centre is in the sticks and the hotel food is rank

If your a women and a bit rough your do really well here, men don't last long at brook street but if you ask any of the consultants in other branches they are pretty honest about this.

    Cons

Low, basic and tends to get low margin 2 arms and 2 legs kind of roles which effects your commission.

    Advice to Management

Keep training consultants ready to go on to other companies and start earning some real money, train your branch managers on how to motivate and get the best of people rather than thinking it's a point and do role.
