I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management is Supportive and encouraging, with feedback given in a productive way. Residents are wonderful and they have many activities to choose from, thanks to a great activities director.

    Cons

Short staffed. Management continually snowed by interview candidates. Recently hired staff are surly and rude to residents and coworkers. Very "know it all" attitude that is off putting to co-workers and residents. Management can be out of touch with staff on the STNA level. Mgmt. relies on staff members to police each other, rather than a supervisor or work lead, causing animosity between co-workers.

    Advice to Management

You give great feedback when you are aware of what is happening on the STNA level. Stop relying on your staff to report each other, it is a poor system and does not work. Yes, sometimes it is necessary for something to be reported; however, the majority of the time, a supervisor or work lead needs to be stopping the behavior before it starts. That NEVER happens at Brookdale, in Skilled Nursing. Excellent STNA's have stopped reporting anything they see because of retaliation and animosity between staff members. It's expected of a supervisor or work lead because it is their responsibility. Managing by relying on co-workers to tell on each other is a recipe for disaster even if what is being reported is legitimate. There are currently 3 excellent STNA's on second shift actively seeking to transfer or leave Brookdale all together due to the poor choices in new staff and the way that you rely on staff members to police eachother, causing animosity and retaliation. You have a mess to clean up and you aren't even aware of it.

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Residents ARE EVERYTHING!
    Benefits GREAT
    PTO is OK
    Community level team is awesome

    Cons

    Stress
    Work life balance
Expectations unrealistic due to corporate standards
    Horrible District Team

    Advice to Management

I have been with Brookdale and was thrown in my role with no guidance. My District team shows favoritism, hires "friends", lacks support, ignores good work and speaks to their employees harshly! I wish corporate would focus more on the leadership in place and truly support their great workers. As a sales associate, this department takes soooo much CRAP and expectations are SO FREAKING RIDIC.

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is one of the better rehab/long term care facilities in the area. High standards regarding the provision of quality care for the clients. Good vision/dental benefits & premium. Overall good culture & corporate values. Tuition reimbursement available. If you are trustworthy the director will support you.

    Cons

Scheduling of some activities are inconsiderate of the floor nurses. Exp: admissions typically are allowed to arrive when the nurse is dispensing meds, overseeing care, addressing family concerns & assisting with meals. Pharmacy delivery also comes routinely at that time. Both those activities could be arranged during hours when other nurse staff/managers are available to assist. Health care benefits not the best. Not many prn staff available so it's tough when full time staff need to schedule time off; success at getting the time off may require the staff to personally find someone to work for them. Limited desirable shifts available.

    Pros

The atmosphere of the people here is unlike anywhere else I've ever worked. Everyone is so nice, it's like we are one big family. It honestly makes coming to work easier.

    Cons

I don't feel the pay is enough to live off of if you want to live in the area. The majority of people I work with have to drive 30+ minutes because we can't afford to live in the area of the office.

    Advice to Management

Adjust the pay in comparrison to the cost of living in the area.

    Pros

Nice campus, friendly staff and residents.

    Cons

Managers for Healthcare Liaisons are not knowledgeable of the Liaison role, neither of the managers lead by example and they are unqualified as leaders. They are disrespectful, unrealistic and greedy.

    Advice to Management

They do not listen so it’s pretty much useless to give advise.
