I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management is very nice! The residents are very sweet and the work you do is rewarding. Very physically demanding, so it keeps me in shape!

    Cons

The pay isn't that great, but if you come here just for the money, then I don't understand why. Every year employees get a bonus based on their performance though.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your employees, especially if they actually care for the residents. I have heard of many wonderful workers having to leave since they were not getting paid enough for the hard work they did.

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Resident's are awesome and co-worker's are excellent for the most part. Our Executive Director truly cares about her staff and Resident's.

    Cons

Corporate Brookdale Management doesn't seem to understand the reality of day-today operations. They seem more interested in the bottom line of money opposed to the ultimate good care and well-being of Resident's. The pay is very low.

    Advice to Management

Increase the pay to keep valued employees. The Resident's really hate the high turn-over of employee's .

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Loving taking care of residents,

    Cons

low hourly rate for the work assignment.

    Advice to Management

Hire a full time laundry attendant, pay more money. you have to many activity coordinators and you still have your RA's performing activities in the evening. you should be using one of them. Hire someone to clean the dining area's in the evening or use the activity coordinator. your Ra's do not have the time if you want them to focus on your residents.

    Pros

Great environment, great culture, management team is appreciated, teamwork approach from management team, flexible hours, regional employees visit community often

    Cons

Low wages for resident aids, too many conference calls about nothing, need to increase line staff including aids and servers. Residents shouldn't have to wait so long for things when they are paying so much.

    Advice to Management

Need to increase wages for line staff

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The communities are beautiful and well cared for. The residents are incredible to work with. Management actually knows when they are doing and tend to be an awesome support system.

    Cons

Back breaking work for terrible pay. I understand low starting wages, many of the care staff that come through the door are not up to par in my eyes, but there really should be a system where after a certain time period the staff in which proved themselves should be given a good raise. On this salry you must choose between rent or bills or a car payment. There is no possible way to afford more than one of those at a time.

    Advice to Management

With this company I've noticed that it is incredibly difficult for them to find good help amoung care staff. With that being said, when you actually get someone who is valuable, treat them as such. Give them a raise. I've seen very good people leave when if given a simple dollar raise, would have otherwise stayed.

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I make enough to support my family, barely.

    Cons

Greedy, only 2% raises every year. Wonder why stock prices are plummeting? They treat their employees like disposables. Corporate doesn't care about anything but the rent checks. The Directors only care about making their bonus and ripping off anyone who gets in their way. Dont expect forty hours they have a mathematical equation to make sure that never happens. But do salaries go down when the the census goes down? Nope. The lowest paid people take the brunt of the impact.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better and your stocks will go up. Stop gouging hours, its gunna hurt your bottom line even worse than it has already. 8 million salary last year Andy (ceo)? You can afford to pay your employees better.
