I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living part-time

    Pros

I was promoted fairly quickly, but really had to stay on the executive director's back to make it happen. It came down to me wanting to switch companies. Decent friendly co workers.

    Cons

Keep your promises, don't over staff positions to later have hours cut and life's changed.

    Pros

Residents are loving and bring joy to the community.

    Cons

Very money oriented company, little care about residents, poor culture.

    Advice to Management

Put residents first!! Without them, you wouldn't have a job!

    Pros

Each building is different and there are some fantastic buildings out there. Research the building you are applying at before you are hired.

    Cons

While there are some amazing buildings with great management unfortunately the corporate office, in an attempt to recover their billions of dollars lost with the Emeritus merger, have made unfortunate decisions in an attempt to recover funds.
    For Example:
    1. Less staff = more work and greater stress load. In comparison to other AL company's Brookdale has significantly less staff with more work (i.e. caregivers do all the laundry and all dining room duties). End result is residents suffer. The pay is in line with the market but the work load and staffing patterns are not.
    2. The Company nickel and dimes everything.
    3. Constant turnover as a result of employee moral and work load/stress.

    Advice to Management

You have lost your way and lost your first love which was taking care of Seniors.

    Cons

Favoritism in scheduling and hiring...Less pay for staff who have been there longer than new hires...Unsettling way they don't look you in the eye when speaking to you.......

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The residents that over pay for their rooms are the only reason I keep coming back.

    Cons

Extremely high turnover rate, most don't last 3 months. The person at the top makes millions while the people at the bottom doing back breaking work have to fight for a twelve cent raise, literally. Do yourself a favor and find a job that will respect you, not Brookdale.

    Advice to Management

It is obvious marketing only cares about filling rooms to get their percentage. Show some compassion and understanding for the residents you put into those rooms.
