I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living part-time

    Pros

Love the residents. I love doing activities and getting to know the life stories. I work on both the AL and memory side and they each have their challenges and perks. I get paid to goto the movies.

    Cons

The coworkers are stressed out. Understaffed. Everything is last minute with little to no communication. Difficult to really connect with residents when you feel you should be running around with your head cut off.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees. Keep a continual growth mindset. Not just have someone from corporate come in every so often and give you a grade.

I worked at Brookdale Senior Living (More than a year)

    Pros

There are no pros. This company took a turn for the worse.

    Cons

Management was rude and insensitive. Company boasted about growth opportunities but you only were promoted if you were friends with management. Management did not do managerial roles. Felt over worked.

I worked at Brookdale Senior Living full-time

    Pros

I enjoyed working with most of my coworkers. Being able to help the residents in a way that improved their independence and quality of life. I really enjoyed the connections I had with the sweet residents. My RDO was the best director I have ever had; really knew how to motivate and connect with her staff.

    Cons

Upper management is totally disconnected from the field and is only productivity driven. Knee jerk reactions to problems resulted in solutions that became problems later. Facilities are declining due to poorly paid/unqualified resident assistants.

    Advice to Management

Visit the field and get to know the people that work for you. Treat your employees as people and not numbers or just a means to your bottom line. Recognize the achievements of your employees and not just worry about the problem lists.

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living part-time

    Pros

Overall, people working elsewhere in the building seemed to enjoy the company.

    Cons

Unable to take tips from seniors, management limited in ability to give raises or even discipline bad behavior since it was so hard to hire new people (one server would be late every day, entirely missing multiple shifts per week). Extremely toxic culture among dining staff.

    Advice to Management

Probably restructure the whole dining department. There isn't any way to turn a real profit running a giant menu off of three cooks for a few hours at a time.
