I worked at Brookdale Senior Living full-time

    Pros

The residents and some of your coworkers. I created friendships through working here that will last forever, due to experiencing traumatic working environments together. Nothing else is positive about working here. Literally the worst place to work.

    Cons

Where do I start? The little fine print on your job description please read. When it states all other duties assigned, that means you do everything your lazy manager doesn't want to do. Also, be prepared for any mistakes the office makes, you will take the blame for it. This company does not care about it's employees at all. If you aren't high up on the ladder of management you are nothing to them. For example, if multiple people have a problem with one manager, the company does nothing about it and forces you to quit because you get too frustrated and upset dealing with the same attitudes and logic all the time. I would not recommend this job to my worst enemy. Another thing, try to show some appreciation for the good hardworking employees, instead of the suck ups that don't do anything. I worked overtime without compensation because I cared about our residents and my coworkers that needed assistance. I did not do that because of my love for Brookdale or the management who never acknowledged my extra hard work but instead talked down to me everyday. Harassment is normal working here, so if you like being belittled and put down all the time while a manager breathes down your neck asking you what you are doing every single second, this is the job for you.

    Advice to Management

Find some actual decent managers not dictators!

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time

    Pros

The residents are wonderful. Staff who works at the community level is generally very caring.

    Cons

Focus on the bottom line - all of the time. Upper management does not listen nor care about struggles at the community level. High turnover. Expectations are unable to be attained. Pressure for sales and census leads to unsafe residents at AL level.

    Advice to Management

Look inward as to why good leaders are leaving. We recently lost our Regional Operations Director who was great to work with. Realize that there is only so much an Executive Director can do. Understand that there were and continue to be too many changes too fast with the integration. Stop the constant feel that everything is wrong. At the community level, we don't trust you. Sad, but true.

I worked at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved working with the Residents.
Met some great coworkers and long life friends.
PTO time off is very reasonable.
    The food is half price.
    Pay is very good.

    Cons

Having to go into Apartments that were infested with Bed Bugs.
Having Upper Management not listen or address your concerns.
No Confidentiality in the Office. One Worker would discuss your employee information with others.
Losing two friends in the office, because of one Rude employee that Management refused to address.
Coworkers that wasn't pulling their weight, and made it hard for the rest.
    Health Benefits are very expensive.
The Turnover ratio is way out of control.

    Advice to Management

Treat all employees with fairness and respect.
Get rid of the employees that bring down the moral, starting with the office.
Reprimand those that are not doing their jobs.
Lock up employee files, with limited access.
Stop worrying about quantity, and give the Residents quality services instead.

I worked at Brookdale Senior Living part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Many of the employees and managers throughout the building were great, and genuinely cared about their work.

    Cons

The dining services department had managerial issues and was in dire need of removing a large number of problem employees. The department surveyed as having a less than 50% job satisfaction rate. I saw a waiter threaten an assistant manager with no repercussion.

    Advice to Management

There was little to no accountability for employee behavior. The setup of the dining room made it easy for slacking employees to dump work on others, some of the kitchen staff was exceedingly difficult and unfriendly.

    Pros

The people you get to meet.

    Cons

Very demanding when it comes to sales. Current management want us to be pushy and that's not what we are supposed to do.

    Advice to Management

Micromanaging never works. With the Emeritus transition you need to tell the legacy Emeritus associates that we are not going to be the "A" typical sales people and make sure they understand that.
