I worked at Broome Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Broome Community College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some faculty/staff are dedicated, many are not

    Cons

The institution has become revenue driven and left academics to chance. Strong academics used to be the hallmark of BCC but now the focus is just maintaining enrollment and saving jobs; that is the reason this faculty member retired.

    Advice to Management

Get back to academics, stop giving grades and degrees away, use fewer adjuncts and stop being so full of yourselves.

    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at Broome Community College part-time

    Pros

Supportive faculty who are willing to provide assistance.

    Cons

Low pay, no health insurance, and they can give your class to a full-timer at the last second.

    Advice to Management

Treat your part-time adjuncts in a non-exploitative manner.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Broome Community College as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Quiet computer lab in the Decker Building for Health Sciences. Lots of time to study, very little actual "work". Good basic working knowledge of how to access programs & assist students. Very flexible schedule. Holidays and weekends are always off!

    Cons

Minimum wage, limited hours -- but considering that you will be filling paper in a printer and occasionally assisting students in basic computer skills -- it's a cake walk. Enjoy it!
