I worked at Broward County Schools full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work Schedule, work schedule, work schedule

    Cons

Career advancement opportunities, wages, poor management, wasteful spending

    Advice to Management

Managers need training. Too many unqualified individuals managing others. No motivational skills, no supervisory skills, no leadership skills. The good/effective managers can be separated from the lousy/ineffective managers by doing an annual employee survey that rates managers/supervisors on a numeric scale. Numbers don't lie. Stop the wasteful spending on construction projects. The estimates that are coming... in from Heery are way too high. The school board is paying 3 to 5 times what a construction project should cost. Hire knowledgeable people who can go over the construction estimates before the board approves them.

I worked at Broward County Schools full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

none, in comparison to other public districts.

    Cons

Top heavy district run like a reality TV series. School board does nothing but bicker like little children, mostly about whether or not to fire the superintendent. Teachers are NOT valued like they should be and all emphasis is on safety and security (mostly CYA mode) since MSD HS massacre. Do yourself a favor and teach a few miles north in Palm Beach county.

    Advice to Management

clean house, start over with educators making decisions instead of amateurs with personal agendas.
