    Pros

Flexibility, you pick the days, locations and hours that you want to work. If you want to become a teacher, this job presents an opportunity to test the waters and find out if education is the path for you.

    Cons

    Payment is not that much.

I worked at Broward County Schools for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent health insurance, students are generally well-behaved and want to learn, good "first job" to have after college.

    Cons

Very low pay, limited room to advance, stressful, administration play favorites, strict annual evaluations at the discretion of supervisors, lots of time spent out of contractual hours spending time to actually prepare for "paid hours" which are only 7.5 hours a day. It sucks. Work/life balance is off, as your personal life actually becomes your entire work life. Only those in education can relate to this.

    Advice to Management

Treat teachers better, stop making teachers do "everything" from being guidance counselors, now security officers, "parents" to students when we are not really their parents, stop scheming so many faculty students, provide mental health services that are affordable and accessible. Oh, and maybe allow teachers to actually teach, which is what we are "paid" for by contract and law. Also, maybe management should... actually try to return to the classroom, and see what a typical teacher does day in and day out, instead of just "administrating". Remember where you started, before you were in your position.
