I worked at Broward County Schools part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The schedule is very flexible, and often times if a sub coordinator likes you, they are likely to call you back for future jobs. Very good as a second job to supplement income

    Cons

No benefits for this position, if you have a day job during the week, this may not be the best option

I have been working at Broward County Schools part-time

    Pros

    Convenient schedule, choose your assignments

    Cons

I have been a substitute teacher for many years and sadly, the pay is still very low ( if you have a bachelors degree the hourly rate was $13+ but is now $11.27 like everyone else), hours have been cut back from 7:30-3:00 to 7:30-2:30, no benefits, no incentives, and the automatic calling system can be annoying if you don’t customize your contact settings.

    Advice to Management

Create a compensation package to attract and keep substitute teachers. Many of us agree that the services we provide far outweigh the pay, hence the current substitute shortage.

I have been working at Broward County Schools part-time

    Pros

great online job access, you can customize jobs by entering the schools you want to work at, flexible, lots of work, vacations when the kids are off. You can get a feel for teaching and different schools, and become known.

    Cons

There are no benefits, and no work if school is out. Sometimes the students are difficult of course, and/or the teacher has no planning period and only half hour lunch.

I worked at Broward County Schools

    Pros

Flexible Schedule and ease of use for their scheduling software (so you can plan according to job availability). I got lucky with the elementary school I wanted to sub in. Subbing is a great way to dip your feet into the educational system. Fun job if you like kids.

    Cons

Pay grade is low with no benefits. I didn't really enjoy much the very early last minute calls. Not all teachers are organized and leave plans for her sub to actually be able to teach. You need to be highly creative sometimes.
