I have been working at Broward Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Benefits. The tuition reimbursement is good and the classes offered are well done. The technology for the most part is up to date. Having med students and residents adds to a positive learning experience. The system is big so you can move around.

    Cons

The atmosphere is toxic in the ICUs. There is a culture of bullying in some of the ICUs and the floors. The CCU and CVICU are good. The speciality areas are also OK. The medical staff is nice and so are the support services. Unfortunately I would never recommend Broward to any nurse I know. Its not a good place to work overall due to the culture of bullying and negativity. My first day in orientation the phrase “you will be written up “was used 20 times not welcome or we are here for you.. Staff nurses are not supported just really treated as 2nd class workers. You are expected to move heavy pt alone. No matter what is going on if something doesnt get done its automatically your fault. Dont do it. stay away. There are plenty of other places to work for nurses.

    Advice to Management

There are neighborhood groups watching and well aware of the outright fraud. Next time you wont be protected under the corporate umbrella. Does the county even have that 70 million fine you have to pay the feds?

I worked at Broward Health full-time

    Pros

Employees are kind and help each other. Great benefits. Many days off and pension plan with a short vesting period.

    Cons

Extremely political. Administrators and Management will do anything to preserve their positions and advance. Employees are fearful of the continuous layoffs, sometimes of entire departments. Innovation is discouraged. Because upper management changes so often, employees do not invest in change because the next management will have a different agenda. There is no trust in senior management. Tedious onboarding with many visits to HR and Employee Health prior to starting. Many forms to complete. Basic tools for doing the job are not available; staff begs, borrows or steals equipment in order to do their jobs. Unsafe work conditions; break-ins occur and armed street people access the buildings. Insufficient parking and lighting for second and third shifts. Pay is below average for the area.
Stereotypical government organization where one individual works and 3 others watch. Meeting intense. As a taxpayer, I am troubled to see senior management in the news so often.

    Advice to Management

Focus on patient care. Invest in caregivers and not additional C-Suite and VPs. Use taxpayer money to care for Broward County's sick, not to advance careers.

    Pros

    Great people to work with;

    Cons

Poor management, low RN pay, cutting everyone's hours. Every day there is a new CEO.

    Advice to Management

Increase RN pay; do everything possible to keep the same employees and management.
