I have been working at Brown & Gay Engineers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people. The people. The people, at least those on my team. Many others new to the group in a leadership role wouldn’t have met the requirements of past leadership.

    Cons

Leadership politics and pride. Past leadership is missed. That was real honesty

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what everyone is saying, it has become a different place than what it once was. A great opportunity to be different has passed. BGE is now a more appropriate name than Brown & Gay. It is a different place. True humbleness is replaced by fancy words than are not authentic well coached through consulting services.

I worked at Brown & Gay Engineers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Once you are allowed into the cliques, the folks are nice.

    Cons

You must prove yourself before anyone will trust you. Once that happens you will still fight for your reasons to make the smallest of decisions.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging, you hired people to do a job - let them! Stop telling people there is a work/life balance when there isn't.

I worked at Brown & Gay Engineers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

9/80 work schedule, lax atmosphere for the most part

    Cons

Rinse repeat type of work, monotonous work that can get stale. No upward Mobility at all. Raises are non existent, 75 cents in 2 yrs for a raise is comical to say the least. Lump sum projects, negotiate a better budget for projects.

    Advice to Management

Although growth is great for your vitality, culture can say otherwise. Advise Managers to manage, be biased and stay away from the Facebook friend co-op that goes on which leads to a conflict of interest.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Brown & Gay Engineers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Ethical company, with good intentions

    Cons

Despite being located in the heart of the Westchase district along Westheimer near the Sam Houston Tollway, management refuses to mitigate the ever-worsening traffic congestion by allowing for working hours to begin before 7:00 a.m. or end before 5:00 p.m. The miserable drive home gets old fast.

    Advice to Management

If you're going to talk the talk of "Work-Life Balance," walk the walk with regards to flexible working hours.

I have been working at Brown & Gay Engineers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some really great people who work there! They have a good reputation in the community and make every effort to maintain it; They are service oriented; They have a very good benefits package that awards tenure; Their compensation package is competitive; They are consistent in their efforts to stay abreast of current technology trends; They maintain focus on creating a diverse business portfolio to reduce the possibility of layoffs in slower times; They do their best to create an environment provide work-life balance.

    Cons

Advancement is difficult, especially if you are a female in a traditionally male-oriented job; Company is slow to weed out bad managers and employees who don't, or can't, do their job; Slow to implement necessary action to improve overall workplace environment; Lack of focus on training and retention of employees in support roles.

    Advice to Management

Take action on problem issues faster; Provide more opportunities for growth and advancement in all levels of the company; Don't limit bonus compensation strictly to employees who are at a "professional" level. We are all one team and it takes all of us to get those projects out the door.
