I worked at Bryan Cave full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The salary. Although it's not on par with what other big firms pay. They pay less and the bonuses are non existent.

    Cons

Younger associates do not get sufficient mentoring (which is non existent compared to other firms) and hands-on training. You have to be a member of the "correct" tribe to be treated well. It was ridiculous to see how people were claiming their great grandmother as half a tribe member just to be treated well.

Only those of the correct tribe get good assignments. And have their "mentors" run interference for them to make sure that some partner does not give them a bad review come year end. Everyone else is feed to the wolves. It's so blatantly obvious. And they fully know that staffing you to work with certain partners will likely result in unfavorable reviews at year end. If you are not a tribe member you are often made to feel like an outsider. You are often reminded.

Tribe members get full support and mentoring to make sure they complete their assignments well and succeed. And they get assignments that help them grow their skills. All others are left to flounder on their own and not given the same support and then faulted. The differences in the unfair and unequal treatment are very obvious.

    Advice to Management

No real commitment to diversity. They really need to address the tribe favoritism and sexual harassment.

I have been working at Bryan Cave full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly, great support staff. Average perks. Most timekeepers are pleasant.

    Cons

Ratios required to be 4:1 with team support for more than 8 plus assignment. No pay increase. Benefit premiums increased. Low morale. Lots of favoritism. Office cliques. Like high school.

    Advice to Management

Understand the true meaning of diversity. Really. Realize administration is more self serving than not. Incentives would boost morale.

I have been working at Bryan Cave full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of empty offices, free pop

    Cons

    Management, attorneys, pay, benefits

    Advice to Management

Treat staff like humans. Follow the culture and motto you preach but don't practice. Stop the video and audio monitoring of staff. Stop letting paralegal managers play favorites. Be fair to staff. Don't put a secretary in a partner office because she's one of the favorites. Attorneys need to treat staff equally and not less than. Boost morale. Stop being so cheap. Be honest with people. Giving career opportunities 2 stars since everyone is leaving the Chicago office there are so many openings but if you would treat people well attorneys and staff wouldn't keep abandoning the place.

    Pros

Nice people and generally good environment. Office is also in a good location with great food nearby for lunches and dinners.

    Cons

Not a lot of young peers and not a lot of work so it's hard to learn by doing, especially in certain practice groups.

    Advice to Management

Expand the summer and first year classes.
