I have been working at Bryan Cave full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere, great benefits, lots of perks and good pay.

    Cons

There are few lawyers who need to show respect to staff members and not treat them like gum on the bottom of their shoes.

    Pros

Global reach and experienced senior level attorneys.

    Cons

Not really a con but the strategic focus of the firm is more directed at current global strengths in business, banking and real estate rather than the global energy business.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I have been working at Bryan Cave full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have been in worse places.

    Cons

The secretaries are working like dogs and firm keeps adding more tasks to already burned out people - , the pay is ok, not great, benefits are average. I would avoid this place if possible. (unless you like slavery)

    Advice to Management

The management needs to investigate what the job descriptions are before trying to place people into them. They are clueless when it comes to the daily activities of the staff and if you have a problem, it basically gets lost in the ridiculous bureaucratic element that is BC. Their software sucks. And most people that you deal will do only their job and that is it, no think outside the box, etc. Sweatshop mentality - easy to burn yourself out here because the work is endless and you could work 24 hours a day - the more you do, the more you do. They will say thanks, but you will not be paid for it.

    Pros

Most staff are professional; Good support services

    Cons

Blatant favoritism; Incidents of bullying by some attorneys and staff; Poor leadership in many departments; Attorneys throw staff under the bus on a regular basis; Absent and ineffective administration; Attorneys and leadership pass blame down the chain and don't take responsibility; Highly recommend any staff looking at this firm to avoid it.

    Advice to Management

Good leadership learns from mistakes. This office repeats mistakes. Show loyalty to those who work hard and work with honesty. Stop rewarding inappropriate and unprofessional behavior.

    Pros

BC is a top-notch firm if you want to live in the Midwest.

    Cons

Like any law firm, work life balance can be a pain. However, for a firm of this caliber it honestly isn't that bad.

  9. "Overall pretty good for BigLaw"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Employee - Associate

I worked at Bryan Cave full-time

    Pros

Relatively friendly office culture in the CA offices, particularly for BigLaw. Excellent office spaces in CA offices. Salary isn't top of the market, but neither are the hourly billing requirements. Corporate attorneys and departments are top-notch. Can't speak as to litigation.

    Cons

It's BigLaw, so you know what you're getting into. Regardless of the firm, work-life balance is always going to be difficult if you want to excel. Plenty to get out of the experience, if you can survive in that environment.

    Pros

    great benefits and decent compensation

    Cons

the firm is run by bean counters in St. Louis--they care only about the bottom line
from what I understand they've lost some major clients--billing may be an issue-not a great place to work
