I worked at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay is decent and the benefits are good

    Cons

The higher level / corporate are very out of touch with employees and what it takes to run an office. They are all about cutting corners and reducing cost by any means necessary. Even if it means overloading a secretary with multiple attorneys, giving formalities outside work or having the reception do office management duties.

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with your employees, have better communication and have better management training. Sometimes you have to spend money to increase productivity. Free breakfast or lunches does not compensate for underpaid , overworked employees

I worked at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney full-time

    Pros

Some of the team members were great. It is a prestigious law firm in (some parts) of the Pittsburgh community.

    Cons

Tons of turnover in the Marketing and Business Development departments makes it impossible to implement long-term strategies. The firm does not value nor does it treat fairly, its administrative team members. Many people are very unhappy. Firm management is out of touch.

    Advice to Management

Pay and treat people fairly. Promote fairly from within. Take a hard look at why you've lost so many team members in the past few years - hint: it's not the team members.

I have been working at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney full-time for more than a year

    Pros

As a mid-level associate that has worked at Buchanan since mid-2017, Buchanan has a lot going for it. It successfully straddles the (very difficult) line between "mega" and "mid-sized" law firm. Culture-wise, the firm generally adheres to the "no jerks" rule. While there have been occasions where certain shareholders have been demanding, Buchanan appears to select their shareholder candidates based on their fit with...

    Cons

Like many larger firms, the firm does not always do the best in encouraging cross-office collaboration. The salaries, while livable, are somewhat low compared to other large, similarly situated firms. Furthermore, the firm could more appropriately adjust salaries for cost of living in their various offices. This creates a disparity between real, take-home earnings of associates in various offices who, by and large,...

    Advice to Management

Review the disparities between the satellite and home offices to ensure that distribution of workload and pay are equitable across the firm.

  10. "Mid-Level Associate"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Associate in Pittsburgh, PA

I have been working at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Genuinely good people to work with and for; early career opportunities for client contact and meaningful/sophisticated work

    Cons

Firm could benefit by investing additional resources to further incentivize its associates, particularly those who demonstrate partnership-track potential
