I worked at Buck Consultants full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a job, pay was half way decent

    Cons

Never funded up bonus pools, constantly laying people off. A person you have a strong relationship with one day will be gone the next. No resources, zero investment into Buck is causing products and services to be antiquated.

    Advice to Management

Stop the RIFs and invest into the company. Clients won't choose Buck if these items aren't fixed.

I have been working at Buck Consultants full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

flexibility on PTOs; some good people; smart people

    Cons

Poor poor management; no good training; does not listen to employees (even if we speak out in anonymous surveys); poor communication from management; too many sale of the company Buck, each time getting worse and worse; lost big clients, RIF lots of good people ruining their long time history and livelihood with no looking at who will take over jobs; no pay raises in over 7 years, little bonus for lower level but Principals got double digit bonuses; not a good place for a career, don't see new company making it on its own, or so we hope without all the good folks that they let go. We shall see.

    Advice to Management

Look out for and keep the good hard working dedicated employees. Rewarding the managers with big pay to stay only to leave once they get their shares and golden parachutes. It is so obvious. Good luck with new company, and no more good employees. Hope those that left are looking at the clients they once serviced.

I worked at Buck Consultants full-time

    Pros

Highly intelligent, warm and fun people. Nice working atmosphere and location.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the company was bought and sold three different times over several years and it took a toll on everyone with several waves of reorganizations, layoffs, new managements, employee exits, etc. High profile clients were lost, morale was on a downward spiral and everyone was afraid of their jobs being eliminated. It's very difficult to work in those conditions. The company lost lots of great talent.

    Pros

    Compensation, title, some good colleagues

    Cons

Local office leadership, Sales leadership, Regional leadership

    Advice to Management

To compete with the larger H&W Consulting shops you need to establish a culture that exudes that. Stop micro managing employees, listen to others' ideas, be straightforward with candidates in the hiring process.
