    I worked at Buehler full-time

    Pros

I have benefited from working at this company and am extremely grateful for their investment in me. I loved the job I did at Buehler, but man it was tough sometimes. There are always going to be communication problems within companies like these, but I think the key to success is to keep an open and vocal mind. The newer people who had been hired (within the last 0-3 years) seemed to be easier to get along with & open to more innovative ideas. Availability and time management is a real issue here since Buehler operates as a skeleton team. There is only one person to do one job and no one else seemed to have the time or patience to help out one another. Morale could be better.

    Cons

Many veteran employees love to gossip and make up ridiculous stories/claims when they feel inferior, threatened, or just plain bored. I can understand being frightened for the security of your job or being so bored that gossip is the only thing to make work fun, but to pick on and fabricate stories about newer/younger/different employees is just ridiculously immature. I hesitate to use the term "boys club" - but that's what it is. It's hard to stay silent in those types of situations, but it's exactly what you have to do to get by.

    Advice to Management

I am mostly happy with management because they've invested in me and were very encouraging. However, I think the communication standards could have been better, as well as the overall morale.

    I worked at Buehler full-time

    Pros

    Nice building and parking lot

    Cons

Reliance on sales of consumables instead of designing new methods / equipment.
Poor management - It's a cushy job just pushing the consumables, a monkey could do it well, but they don't even try.
The dirty little secret is that they don't like older people working there so they push them out during their frequent layoffs, never to return.

    Advice to Management

    Grow up. Do something.
    Actually value the employees.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Buehler full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay check, and benefits are average. Employees are friendly and many good places for lunch.

    Cons

Lack of management support, building/facilities are dated, IT systems are silo to each company which means substandard.

    Advice to Management

Losing market shares, consumables are outsourced, and your lab expertise has been down sized beyond lean. You are struggling to maintain what made the company successful in years past.

I worked at Buehler full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Life balance. Interesting/challenging/progressive field that requires an analytical mind set.

    Cons

Lack of direction. Upper Management doesn't listen to or value its employees and trench managers. ITW management is more concerned about being found out for their incompetence than moving the company forward or they are just incapable of understanding. Not sure but most likely combination of both. Upper management plays favorites with "yes" men and women. Typical.

    Advice to Management

Upper middle management. Find your voice. Don't be so concerned that being heard will be frowned upon as much as it may be taken as an asset to the betterment of the organization. Find your guts if you have them. If you don't speak at all then you are as much a detriment to the company as the people calling the shots that have no clue as to the competitive market place you operate in.
Upper management figure out who, what, and how extensive your competition is because currently you have no clue that's why you are losing market share and respect in your field.

I worked at Buehler full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Nice building, good parking
Some of the people are extremely competent and helpful

    Cons

Lots of management upheaval, department heads are kind of leaderless, which leads to lots of interdepartmental infighting - which leads to unhappy people - which leads to lots of turnover
(Trying to run company with co-CEO's, one at LB and one in Germany)
No real new machines in a long time - so sales are down
Much time spent training new people on archaic business systems

    Advice to Management

Actually practice what ITW preaches regarding 5S, In-Line, 80/20, new product design, etc.
    Don't lie to people

    Pros

It's an item company. Good location. Worldwide organization but midsize company.

    Cons

Not tons of promotion or growth opportunities. Wages are fair but not great.

    Advice to Management

upper managers should listen more to the employees. They have a lot to offer and aren't always look to for advice and experience.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Buehler full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Since company became part of ITW all internal changes made have been very positive and much needed. Senior management replaced with ITW management, which was much needed. Great ITW toolbox applications integrated into company culturel. Good benefits, friendly co workers.

    Cons

You should like working for a large company to work at Buehler. Company prefers young, fresh out of school employees who will work for lower pay to obtain experience. Raises are not merit based but across the board percentage. No room for professional growth unless you are on the ITW fast track. Older employees not valued.

    Advice to Management

Should all have the same standards and rules to live by for employees. Pay standards should be raised to meet the scale of other companies in the area. Communication is key to keep employees happy.
