I worked at Buffalo Public Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Loved the atmosphere and the children the most. The position is a salaried one so it was definitely a plus when school was not in session.

    Cons

I experienced some condescending teachers that took my help for granted. Their really isn't a ladder to climb nor do they offer tuition assistant at this level.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more unity between the aides and teacher's for the common good of the children.

I have been working at Buffalo Public Schools (More than a year)

    Pros

Work when you want. You get to move around. I really enjoy the flexibility and freedom that this position allows.

    Cons

Pay could be better. Teachers act like you don't exist at some schools. Kids in certain schools are on their worst behavior and you are expected to deal with this.

    Advice to Management

Treat us with more respect. Some of you are great and others not so much.

    Pros

You have excellent benefits and hours. There is opportunity to make extra pay as well.

    Cons

Discipline in schools is atrocious. Administrators at odds with teachers.

    Advice to Management

Support your teachers and work together to solve problems. Stop looking to blame teachers for circumstances beyond their control. Recognize that teachers teach because they want students to learn and will do what ever it takes to improve if they are appreciated instead of blamed for the problems.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Buffalo Public Schools (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The best reason to work at Buffalo Public Schools is you need a job, and it is a job, not a profession - see below.

    Cons

I say it is a job because very few people act professionally. Administration is told not to put anything in writing. Dictates from City Hall cannot be disputed. The inequality among teacher responsibilities is mind boggling. The BTF does nothing because it is considered teacher against teacher. Board Members are an embarrassment and are a true testament to the bigotry and racism that exists in the South Buffalo communiity.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice - their egos are too big to take any advice. However, the public should wonder why the school doesn't just copy a district that works. Why reinvent the wheel? And it would be probably would be good to copy this practice: Give every kid a book.

I worked at Buffalo Public Schools full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You have the opportunity to work with some exceptional children. The schedule worked for me while I was attending school.

    Cons

No Benefits No Compensation No Communication and when you call for information, staff act like deer caught in headlights. Many of the clerical staff have no interpersonal skills, some seem to be just waiting for retirement. Talent and development training needs to be giving to all staff especially substitute teachers.

    Advice to Management

All the Board does is bicker over everything. Need to really come out of that boardroom and step into the classroom. Work on your talents and developments. Credentials mean nothing without professional and interpersonal skills
