    I worked at Build-A-Bear part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved working for this company! This is a great company to work for in retail because you get to work and play at the same time every day. My store was pretty small so it was manageable to keep everything organized and all guests well entertained. I loved the SHOW aspect of being a Bear Builder and Associate Manager. I only left the company because I moved to the other side of the state. I would recommend to anyone looking to work hard, make magical moments, and gain loads of experience!

    Cons

Retail is not for everyone and customer service can be hard but this is a great place to master those skills!

    Pros

Loved working here. You have to like kids and talking to everyone, being friendly is essential. Customer service first, very family friendly clean image. Super fun job, lovely management.

    Cons

Not everyone takes their job seriously, leaving you to pick up the slack when things need to get done.

    I worked at Build-A-Bear full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the most passionate, kind-hearted people you will ever work with. It felt like being part of a big family. More than just a store, you get to create experiences for kids of all ages, and it's amazing to be able to bring that magic into your work. Much of the manager training is self-paced and can vary from store-to-store, but I never felt I was lacking resources to learn or the support of my teammates.

    Cons

Corporate has no consideration for the needs of their employees. While it's an amazing experience at store level, corporate consistently makes decisions that clearly don't consider how it will affect their employees. For evidence, consider the "Pay Your Age" event they hosted in summer, 2018 that was an international disaster. That experience was way worse for the employees than it was for the customers, which is saying something. Corporate also will demand labor-intensive product placement changes without allocating more payroll, make poor product purchasing decisions, and demand higher performance from stores while pulling out the rug from under their feet at every chance.

    Advice to Management

The district managers for the Upper Midwest District from 2016 through today were horrible - no regard for the needs of store-level managers and both of them caused a large amount of management turnover. My advice to corporate - find a district manager who's willing to understand and work with store-level issues. Managers who feel they are being listened to give better performance and retention.

I have been working at Build-A-Bear part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Fun environment(sort of)
    Work with children

    Cons

    Lack of hours
Constantly competing with other employees to make goals
    Pressuring sales tactics towards children
I constantly feel like I am working for a car dealership but with plushies
Weekly raffles that store managers and supervisors have a higher chance of winning simply because they have more days/hours

    Advice to Management

Competitive work environment + kids' store = NO
