I have been working at Build-A-Bear full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Dogs allowed in office
CEO seems to really care about the employees

    Cons

Some benefits turn out to be at "manager's discretion"
Little to no room to grow your career
Low salaries for many non-management positions

    Advice to Management

Pay closer attention to low to mid management as the values and culture of the company can get lost working its way down from the top

Working in a very happy and positive environment.

    Cons

Costumers could be annoying sometimes, but you can't really help that.

I have been working at Build-A-Bear part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Jump around between different stations which provides a nice change of pace every now and then. Cute kids and fun environment.

    Cons

Pay could be better. The parents who don't pay attention to their kids and act like you are the babysitter.

I worked at Build-A-Bear (More than a year)

    Pros

It can be a fun and magical job, get to sit while you stuff bears, good management training and team support

    Cons

Low pay, bratty kids and parents, worried about conversion and hoe much money they can squeeze out of each customer

    Advice to Management

Hire full time associates! Offer a percentage bonus rather than a $100 before taxes

    I worked at Build-A-Bear part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

atmosphere is great, making children of all ages day is main highlight

    Cons

the company started focusing way too much on conversion and how much money they could make off of each customer.

    Advice to Management

hire the right people, and take the time to coach and train your team a lot, and dont be stingy with atta-bears, they mean more than you think.

    I worked at Build-A-Bear full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun work environment. Decent pay. The managers were nice.

    Cons

High turn over rate. No flexibility on hours. Was passed over on a management position because they promised it to the other girl when they hired her, despite her inability to lead, poor customer service record and low sales.

    Advice to Management

Reward those who work hard, who give their all. Training someone new is much more expensive than investing in the employees you currently have. If they give 1000% make sure they know they are valued or they will seek employment somewhere else.

    I worked at Build-A-Bear part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My first job and definitely my favorite. The managers were amazing and helpful and became friends outside of work, even to this day. It always felt like a day of fun!

When corporate would come for surprise visits it was always a pleasure. They were just as nice! They really tried to build relationships with the employees.

Extremely flexible with time off and vacation requests.

They have great discounts, around the holidays especially. (these make great gifts for kids)

    Cons

Since I have to put a con, I would say, the birthday parties. Those were never my favorite because it was a little all over the place and they weren't separated from the rest of the customers that would come in.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

    I worked at Build-A-Bear part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun Place to work. Great Atmosphere. It was a blast to make kids happy!

    Cons

My manager was retiring soon, so he tried to do as little as possible. That mindset trickled down to a lot of the other employees

    Advice to Management

Keep it relaxed but still by code. Make sure everyone cares.

I have been working at Build-A-Bear full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great work environment. My district managers have all been great to work with and have offered constructive feedback to help make my performance even better.

    Cons

I really don't have much to complain about. A few of the newer ideas are a little time consuming but nothing too bad. We have gone to salary workers only working 40 hours a week which in one way is great but there are times I would like to be able to work more to get the job done without incurring more payroll dollars.

    Pros

    Lots of fun new people.

    Cons

Very few pay raise opportunities, constant judgement of mistakes but no appreciation for successes even if there are proportionally more successes.

    Advice to Management

Most retail companies offer a pay raise for every year with the company.
