I have been working at Build-A-Bear part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly team environment! Great job to start if you are looking for a side hobby job. Stress free environment and super fun to work at! If you do not mind the kiddos. You must be super energetic to drive both sales and engagement for guests! Especially good if you are a senior in high school wanting your own start money, gets harder if you are in college. You can easily balance both life and work!

    Cons

The health insurance for managers could improve better...it doesn't cover most 100% cost of medical bills, prescriptions, doctor visits, etc. Based on performance ONLY! If you do not contribute to the team YOU WILL LOSE YOUR HOURS!

I have been working at Build-A-Bear part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small work place, 'friendly people', pay higher than minimum, working with children

    Cons

Poopy CEO (only gives a day off after death of family before 'terminating' your position), Very High School Clique,

    Advice to Management

Try to relate to the workers more instead of being money-hungry goblins

I have been working at Build-A-Bear (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly staff, good employee discount

    Cons

Company management, party bears cannot accept tips, disconnect between corporate and how the stores actually function.

    Advice to Management

Corporate needs to focus on what their store managers tell them since there is generally a lot of pressure put on employees shoulders to constantly sell, sell, sell. After working there for only three months, I felt as if the magic of the job diminished because of the unrealistic goals the company kept forcing the managers to push on us. Also, why can't bear builders accept tips? It's true that it is their responsibility to host parties but, if a family believes that person did an exceptional job, I believe allowing them to accept a tip wouldn't harm the company. It isn't like they'd be donating that sum to the company anyways, so there isn't any harm. It's really discouraging for party hosts, especially if it's a large party and the bear busted their butt trying to manage 30+ kids with only one party helper.

    I worked at Build-A-Bear part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Very fun work environment
    Not super stressful
    No required overtime
Ability to move up from bear builder to management in time
    Great culture

    Cons

    Might have to work holidays
Occasionally have to work nights (later than normal) for floorsets
    Pay could be better

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! Most companies do not reward/acknowledge their employees for doing what they are supposed to do and doing it well. These pat on the backs (I think they were called Atta-bears) really do make a difference to the employees. Engage in launch games, keep up the exciting atmosphere for both the employees and the guests.

Amazing company to be with, the stories you get to share with guests is a life long memory.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Maxine Clark created an amazing company , I hope that her ideals of the company never change.

I worked at Build-A-Bear (More than a year)

    Pros

Very hands on and personal experience with each customer, fun environment, room to wear different hats (in one day you can work the register, the stuffer, dress me area or host birthday parties) and the employee discount is fair.

    Cons

Depending on the location, mine being the old 5th avenue 46th street location in NYC, retail in general has a lot of catty workers, drama, attitudes and petty managers, not all but a good group that were there. But most retail jobs share this quality.

    Advice to Management

Do a professionalism check along with the personality check on the clock, so that rude, & catty, mean girls/guys don't poison such a great and exciting place to work.

it was an easy college job retail air conditioned never got dirty always home on time

    Cons

little kids and inventory parents expecting me to babysit their children AT MY JOB

    Advice to Management

listen to your employees make sure they understand that yes we want a sale but the most important thing is the children

    I worked at Build-A-Bear part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very fun job. Working with all the children was very excited. The product was fun and interesting. Employees received 20% discount & twice a year received a 50% discount. Multiple holidays were time and a half. You can get a discount at AT&T. Company cared about employees and offered many benefits such as: holiday pay, insurance for part time, parties for employees, college pay, etc.

    Cons

Unless you're in management or its busy time of year you don't receive a lot of hours. Parents of children can be pains. And the coupons system gets really crazy.

    Advice to Management

Hire less people so you can give employees more hours.
