I have been working at Bunge North America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Local leaders are conscientious and want to do the right thing but are hamstrung with vacuum from corporate leaders.
People are local to site – i.e. a lot of people from the local farms and communities work at sites and as such develop good family atmosphere.
Work Family balance is good and that covers a lot of sins in todays environment

    Cons

I've been with Bunge for 7 months. In that span 5 deaths, (across corporation) and many lost time injuries. Repeatedly company management says "think" about safety and "be wary of hazards" and 'stop work' to assess what we are doing locally. After working across chemical industry for >20 years - this would not be acceptable. When people are getting hurt at this rate, response would be inadequate.
Management should be looking for root cause of the injuries, implementing plans across the business and developing standards of operation and not saying 'we follow the grain standard'. Pretty soon the business will be on 'Dangerous jobs'.
There is no assessment of risk, only site leadership (not corporate) review of risk. As a result, each site has the mentality of 'we've always done it that way and no one has gotten hurt'.
I see flashes of evidence that Bunge wants to do the right thing, but the corporate leadership has been inbred from either Bunge or within the grain business so things are not really going to change.
Captial spending is done in a vague manner and there is little direction from above where the business should go. The sites are asked to develop capital plans based on little business growth information.
Pay is good for business but poor for competitive areas.
New employee training is non-existent (you must develop your own - new engineers struggle unless based at a corporate location.

    Advice to Management

Focus on developing corporate standards and leading as opposed to waiting for things to happen from site level.

    Pros

corporation with opportunities and good benefits but composed of a lot of good down to earth people you typically find in agriculture. Owns safety.

    Cons

Still has some of the red tape and politics that can be found in most corporations. Changes take a long time.

    Advice to Management

The more ownership your team members are given in the decision making process will make them that much more motivated. There is efficient run business and there are those run so lean that problems slip thru cracks and can become major issues down the road, you have to find the right balance and monitor it closely. If you wait for it to break your too late.

    None I can think of

    Cons

Work two weeks straight until you get a day off. Companies demerit point system is rediculous for applying to certain employees considering the hours they work

    Pros

OK starting pay but it's a smoke screen

    Cons

The pay they give you IS NOT WORTH the job!!! Terrible management. Don't care about employees. Training is a joke. Most co-workers are hostile. Probably because they have to work at that terrible place!

    Advice to Management

Better training! The job is hard! Pay more and ppl might stay.

I have been working at Bunge North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great diversity, encourages taking ownership of your work and trusts that you know what your are doing. People here are very smart so you have to stay at the top of your game all the time. Vacation time is paid based on your years in the work force, not your years with them and it is overly generous. work from home one day per week. great pay. Lots of opportunity for advancement

    Cons

honestly can't think of any. There has to be something but I cannot think of anything right now.

    Advice to Management

You are very good at showing appreciation - from bonuses, to Christmas parties, to free ice cream and pop corn. It is nice to see a company just say thanks.
