    Stepping Stone to True Luxury

Aug 10, 2021 - Merchandise Planner in New York, NY

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    1. Clothing allowance; direct deposit 2. Discount; 40%, but 50% in Summer and Winter 3. Mostly friendly people 4. Nice offices 5. Can open doors to other luxury brands

    Cons

    1. Company plays heavy politics and favoritism; if you are liked by senior leaders you'll be first in line for the next promotion. You can even be moved/promoted every 6 months if you are liked a lot! 2. Plays lip service to DEI, where director and above levels are mostly white. 3. Employees are strung along for open positions for promotion; I was overlooked once b/c it wasn't the right time and my team couldn't lose me and another employee was overlooked 3x with no reason why. This despite being encouraged to apply/interview. 4. THEY DO NOT promote into merchandising from within; their logic is they want previous luxury brand experience (Gucci, LV, etc)...but their own employees knowing the brand, product, history, and having relationships with stores don't count. 5. Pay is below market; "we pay a premium, in a lower salary, to work for Burberry", something I heard a manager said. 6. Some senior leaders are known and have been seen berating direct reports with no consequence.

    Brand in transition

Jul 20, 2021 - Visual Merchandising Manager in New York, NY

    Pros

Pay rate was above average for the position. Burberry was a friendly work environment in my experience. Work /life balance was above average (but you needed to be the master of your time)

    Cons

The brand is currently in the midst of a repositioning. There were many major restructurings (even before the pandemic) hard to say if the dust will ever settle. HR department seemed constantly disorganized, most likely due to constant change. Very sink or swim environment.

    Never a dull moment

Apr 26, 2014 - Stock Associate in McLean, VA

    Pros

Pays well. Can receive bonuses based on yearly performance of company meeting numbers and LP standards. Always work to do with no down time. Excellent benefits as my second daughters birth was completely covered.

    Cons

Few you directly work with actually invest in you as a person. Corporate provides a company standards training that teaches you nothing about how to do your job if you are stock. You are expected to reach out to other stores and self train in order to do your job. If you lose your store manager and you have a new AGM expect to take on way more than your role requires. Your review has little to do with your job description as it is purely based on if you meet the Burberry behaviors. Sales staff expects you to be in charge of everything relating to merchandise, dept leads especially own little in regards to setting and maintaining their department. This puts a great deal of pressure on you because if you are the only stock person you have to manage FOH, BOH and the offsite stock. Quality of product is going down as well.

    Great Benefits

Aug 4, 2015 - Retail Sales Associate in New York, NY

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The company has great pay and good benefits. Sometimes you also may make a bonus if you are a department manager and your department makes its monthly goal. The company is very big on promoting within. You get paid vacation days and sick days.

    Cons

All the locations are always typically under staffed which leads to working long hours. The job is physically and mentally draining. There is no work/ life balance here, Burberry is your life. We also have secret shoppers who demand a lot of information which is difficult to give to many typical shoppers. If you don't get over an 85, you fail and get written up. You also must contact clients and clientele constantly. The job is very stressful.

One of my favorite places to work

    Jan 29, 2017 - Sales Support Specialist

    Pros

Burberry was one of most profound and professional company I have worked with. You learn so much about the company as giving the perfect amount of customer service. Everything is done how you'd imagine, and if not, better.

    Cons

It is a high end store, so the work/life balance isn't the best. Pay wasn't too great when you're only seasonal, but I'm sure when you're in a higher position, the pay is higher.

    It's iight

Apr 27, 2016 - Sales Associate in Egg Harbor City, NJ
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Good benefits and great to put on a resume. You learn a lot about customer service since that is what Burberry as a company definitely excels in as opposed to other luxury brands which give off a cold vibe when walking into a store. And great people for the most part.

    Cons

Long work hours and inconsistent scheduling. I have school so I can't do full time. I can only work 4 days a week but sometimes management sneaks an extra day in on some weeks so I would have to work 5 days a week sometimes which stresses me out.
