    Pros

Co-workers and residents. They were the best part of the job.

    Cons

There is a real loss of communication between management and employees. The management is top heavy, while not addressing the floor needs. The Director is not social and does not take the time to meet new staff.

    Advice to Management

Get involved with your staff. There are meetings and "business" needs, which is understood but there is a real disconnect between the floor and management. Burcham has great core values, but without the staff to uphold and support them, they are meaningless.

    Pros

The residents are great to work with

    Cons

Need more support from director. Do more then put a hair net on please. It may look good to your boss, but really who are you kidding!

    Advice to Management

Get your hands dirty, talk less. You are too critical of employees, and co workers, you like to hear yourself talk, pull up your sleeves and work beside me. We are appreciated by residents, yet you like to take credit for our work. When you talk we hear nothing, but watch your lips move.
Benefits are not great, no matter how you dress up the package. Given the cliental and healthcare you would think it would be better.

    Pros

Residents are wonderful. Some coworkers are great to work with. Always a shift to pick up if you need some extra money.

Holiday pay is double which is nice.

    Cons

There is a specific CC who is the most unfriendly woman I have ever encountered. She shows blatant favoritism and I don't think i've ever seen her smile since I've been working here.

    Advice to Management

Work on hiring other CCs/nurses because the ones there right now make me want to quit my job.

    Pros

Many caring and compassionate direct care staff, hats off to you (you know who you are)

    Cons

Upper management had great ideas at times but would not follow through. Staff cut to to "budget cuts" while other public curbside appearances are completed (remodeling, landscaping).

    Advice to Management

Did not feel valued, others outside key leadership have great ideas that should be considered/implemented.

I have been working at Burcham Hills Retirement Community full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people who need our care and my fellow workers

    Cons

There are rumors that all the middle managers were forced to take big pay cuts but the leader didn't. Seems unfair. When is it gonna happen to us workers?

    Advice to Management

Be honest and find other ways to save money than cut pay. No one makes big money here as it is.

    Pros

Great team work. Everyone pitches in to help get the best care provided for our residents. The Administrator even helps out answering call bells and making beds. People have fun and enjoy interacting with one another. The management offers a lot of training opportunities to keep our skills at top notch. The 1st floor is modern and well run.

    Cons

I would like to work more hours, but I realize that it is necessary for the company to manage overtime.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work on strengthening the skillset of the nursing staff, as they greatly appreciate the effort. The staff enjoys the open door policy of the managers, and the culture of encouragement.

I have been working at Burcham Hills Retirement Community full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of open shifts to pick up when all beds are filled, great coworkers, just offered raises to entire workforce

    Cons

Expect no help from management. Managers harass employees instead of providing a solution. HR department is the same. If you have a compliant your concern will have already been twisted before you even enter the office. Huge divide between management and other staff. Zero flexibility in scheduling and refuses overtime. They will never do you a favor for a day off, but will ask you to pick up shifts constantly. Often times you will be short staffed. Preferential treatment males, especially male RNs. Management does not care about resident's mental well being. Purely a for profit environment.

    Advice to Management

Expand your skills beyond your office. Work with other staff's concerns and create active solutions instead of ignoring them. Appreciate your employees and be flexible with them to an extent. Get to know your resident's and their families.
