Engineer Surveyor

I have an area manager who is reasonable and flexible. I am left to get on with my job but still have advice when required. My working day is never the same. There are opportunities to work in different areas and work in many industries.
Cons
Bureau Veritas do not pay the going rate and will attempt to pay as little as possible, this is because there is a bonus culture.

Overworked/underpaid
May 10, 2017 - Anonymous Employee in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I like the location in Greenspoint. It is close to home and an easy commute. My supervisors are all very likable and easy to work for
Cons
Overworked, working 60 hours a week and not being compensated accordingly. Salary is too low for the responsibilities and they are unwilling to renegotiate salary. Company is becoming top heavy. Hiring more managers and laying off lower end worker bees which is creating stress and turnover of the support staff

Production production production
Apr 18, 2023 - Lab Technician in Canning ValeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I honestly dont think theres a single pro other than it pays a bit above minimal wage.
Cons
Production focused. Always pushing to do more and more. Supervisors and managers try to create a competitive environment to push workers to produce faster. If you have too many water or bathroom breaks, your productive goes down so you get spoken to. people don't really talk to each other. The hours are long and the lab can get very hot.

Overworked and Underpaid
Mar 1, 2022 - Lab Assistant in Burnaby, BCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Large company that has the potential to allow for you to move around and grow your career as they are a global company.
Cons
The workload for the Microbiology department in the Food and Agri Sector here is Burnaby is overworked, underpaid and understaffed to function as a good team. There is was to much daily work and overtime is expected of you. The managers of the Microbiology sector are good and they provide what ever you need if possible.

Pros
OK pay, decent enough team
Cons
Senior management is antagonistic and passive aggressive. Most mid-level managers and supervisors walking on eggshells to not raise the ire of senior management. Throws everyone beneath them under the bus as soon as something doesn't go their way. No room for your own ideas or how to improve work morale. Almost no benefits as RRSP contribution does not even begin until you have worked a full year and even after that, you have to work for a further 2 years for RRSP matching. Absolutely pathetic

Pros
The coworkers were relaxed and trying to do their own thing while helping.
Cons
First week on the job the boss starts talking about how attractive I am in the context of job performance. Another manager wouldn't take no for an answer and kept trying to insert themselves into my personal life.

Employees are not Valued at this Company
Jan 18, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in Buffalo, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
*Competitive benefits *Great variety of professional positions in one location *Bonus generally given on a yearly basis {~6% of salary}
Cons
*Open 'noisy' floor plan that allows no confidentiality or privacy for necessary client discussions *Under-qualified managers working their own agendas rather than contributing equally and making decisions for the good of the company *Obsession with bottom line rather than the well-being and overall value of loyal employees *Poor work/life balance; the general expectation for most positions is to work well beyond a 40-hour week for salaried positions *Overall very low employee morale

Great Collaboration Culture
Jan 17, 2023 - Business Development ExecutiveRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Working at BV was a complement to my career and my manager was great too. Although the role was sometimes limited it was during the still at large COVID-19 time period so looking back, there was little one could do about it.
Cons
Salary could be improved upon.

Pros
This was a great place to work until the current senior managers team were elected.
Cons
People used to care about the employees. Everyone was treated with respect and equality. Now it’s all about how much work they can get out of the employee. Wage increases are minimal and everyone gets the same regardless of performance. Bonus are only given to managers which means they are being compensated for their bad behaviour. BV is constantly boasting about employee equality and team building, unfortunately it’s all talk.

No opportunities for progressing.
Feb 28, 2016 - Coordinator in MadridRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Some good colleagues and the opportunity to work in important projects worldwide.
Cons
High pressure environment with a complicated way of relation. All your communications and everything that you do must go through your line business manager. No matter how hard you try, all the time the company needs more.
