I have been working at Burgess-Norton Mfg. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits they have are good they have 401k, ESOP and ok medical Coworkers are good people everyone helps out everyone when needed.

    Cons

I only recommend working here if you want to get experience and move on to something bigger and better.
When I needed my supervisor I would have to walk around the whole plant sometimes up to 3 or 4 times just to find him if I had an issues. The front office or upper management is to crowded they have to many people. They keep pushing the machines to the max wanting more and more out of them without thinking about the operator. As long as they get their big bonus checks they really don't care how you make the parts just as long as you do. They don't train properly, I was put on a machine with two days of training and I complained about it but nothing was done in had to figure it out myself. Then they have the women checking these parts through a magnifying glass all day most of the time they check to many parts that they aren't even checking them so there's a quality issue right there. And there's Human Resources that works for the benefit of upper management, human resources treats employees like garbage, never gets back to you on time, you can't find the human resource person most of the time. The communication at this place sucks.

    Advice to Management

    Rethink your whole managing process.

I worked at Burgess-Norton Mfg. full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

None. Avoid this place if you have any talent or other options. They will work you to death for little money, keep you scared to lose your job, and basically kill you morally and spiritually. No advancement opportunity exist whatsoever. This facility has more than enough managers, but zero leaders.

    Cons

Dying slowly over your entire Burgess career.

    Advice to Management

Quit. You are miserable, making employees miserable. You don't care about yourself directly reflecting not caring about employees.

I have been working at Burgess-Norton Mfg. full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Strong development program; great place to learn about the business; tremendous ability to broaden ones skill set; global operations provide opportunities for travel and additional learning; ESOP (employee owned company) benefit in addition to 401k match by the company provides additional $$$ growth.

    Cons

Must have a learning appetite and willing to multi-task as this is a lean organization. Travel is often a requirement for salaried positions to support the various plants and operations. At times long work hours - but the work is often enjoyable and challenging.

I have been working at Burgess-Norton Mfg. (More than a year)

    Pros

    good benefits, esop program also

    Cons

machine operators with years of training are retiring without replacement, operations run extremely lean, management views hourly employees as a dime a dozen, non management salaried employees regularly work upwards of 12 hours a day every day, leadership training will be great, if it ever actually gets utilized

    Advice to Management

value your employees, utilize the great leadership training you are paying for, running too lean causes service failures and morale issues. the savings won't matter if you lose the customers due to service failures or bad product.

I have been working at Burgess-Norton Mfg. (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits and a good profit sharing program and match.

    Cons

Really bad working environment. It is very hot in the summer and it is full of oil and grease and fumes and you go home filthy. I have to do a lot of repetitive work and I have had a lot of issues with my wrists.

    Advice to Management

Be more in tune with the hourly employees. You are in your air conditioned office all day.

    Pros

Benefits are good. Salaries are competitive. The people are nice.

    Cons

Facilities are old with no plans to improve. Employees are expected to work weekends constantly. No work life balance. You are expected to work 11+ hours each day. Inconsistency in policy administration.

    Advice to Management

Something needs to be done to improve employee morale. Invest money in the facilities.

    Pros

Good benefits, including ESOP plan and competitive salary help to attract talent.

    Cons

Serious cultural issues. Challenges at upper management level as well as challenges meshing "Lifers" with new employees. 'Old guard' is not welcoming.
Leadership teams at both facilities are rude, belligerent and have little regard for the production workers who are the lifeblood of the company. HR Department is the root of morale issues. Terrible environmental working conditions with exposure to dangerous and hazardous materials and extreme heat. ESOP plan and benefits are the carrot used in all salary negotiations.

    Advice to Management

A great deal is spent on Leadership Training and Development. Great programs, but a waste of resources since the lessons are never put into practice.
