I worked at Burke Williams full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Ever changing priorities keep you on your toes, always something to learn and grow into. There is an immense amount of growth opportunity if you are refined, can communicate your needs and can be a team player.

    Cons

Have to be open minded to changing work-flow and the direction of the company can change at any time and you have to roll with it.
I also didn't care for working every weekend day and holiday despite being a veteran employee.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the communication training and learn how to listen to the needs of the employees and treat them with the same respect you expect from them.

I worked at Burke Williams full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful, 5-star spa. Can use the spa on days off but not on weekends.

    Cons

    Corporate environment-although they deny it.

    Advice to Management

Be kind to new massage therapists who just graduated from the burke williams academy. Do away with the Rating scale! Offer a massage therapist-new graduate mentorship program for students that just left the BW Academy Of Massage. Stop having high expectations of new grads that learned a mediocre massage sequence from BW Instructors. I left your company because you would not work with training me properly and made me feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. Also, the seasoned therapists that I had to practice on are very cruel. I graduated the academy with confidence that I can give a decent massage and you broke me down with your cruel rating system and a-hole therapists.

    Pros

Great preparation with their training. Great place to work to learn customer service standards. Good company benefits! Good appreciation to the staff.

    Cons

Front desk compensation low. Not always the best customers (some come in feeling very entitled being that they are in a beautiful facility and the price they are paying but it is also the professional tone that is set so it's to be expected)

    Advice to Management

Guest services and the online appointment booking needs to prepare guest more of local events or any set backs that a guest might experience when receiving a scheduled treatment at a facility. ESPECIALLY for the SAN FRANCISCO location. The lack of information makes it hard on guest and staff.

I have been working at Burke Williams part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Health benefits, spa time

    Cons

Low pay, no enhancement bonuses, no recognition or appreciation towards staff. Overlooks. Constantly asking their therapist to stay longer than their shift time, bad attitudes, a lot of favoritism, terrible management, no room to grow. Getting days off or covered is like pulling teeth. Very high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to your employees. Show them you care. Replace operations manager

    Pros

Guaranteed 3 shifts per week. Always asked to work extra shifts. Schedules can be traded with other available MTs. MODS are flexible with balancing the client assignments. Open-door policy General Mgr.

    Cons

Required one weekend shift and one evening shift per week. Must stay on the clock when demand is slow. Strict draping. Rushed between services. LOW PAY. Commissions recently decreased. Uniforms are unflattering.

    Advice to Management

Reconsider weekend and evening requierments. Offer shift differential for those shifts. Get rid of the "Service Upgrade" requirements. Pass out tips daily.
