I worked at Burlington Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Very nice people to work with.
-The Management team does not sit at a desk all day, they help the workers out on the Floor as well as Registers.
    -Great Co-workers.
    -Very honest and helpful team.

    Cons

-Some associates tend not to show up for their shift, but that I blame on the individual themselves, not the store or the company.

    Advice to Management

Listen, this management team is awesome. There is practically nothing I can say to make them more pleasant to work with!

    Pros

Lots of time off if you need it

    Cons

Salary is not comparable to other retail outlets of the same type. Management does not support the employee and is out to protect their own self. If you are looking for upward mobility, this is not the place to go. If you are looking for a part time job while in school or retired for extra cash..then this is for you.

    Advice to Management

Back up your associates and dont hang them out to dry. Dont run at the slightest sign of a lawsuit claiming descrimination.

    Pros

Granted this is just from the BCF I worked at: extremely laid back to the point of no one really caring about anything, you can talk to your co-workers and sit in the break room for half an hour if not more over your break time, people are nice to an extent, made some good friends there, they usually buy food for everyone on the holidays.

    Cons

The store gets extremely trashed, they under-staff, epically in the worst departments (Shoes & Sportswear), then move associates around like crazy so people never get the hang of one department, the managers have no idea what they're and don't know how to communicate effectively or even relate and work with their employees, and then when corporate makes visits they overwork you to compensate for the mess they made of the store in between visits.

    Advice to Management

Take some people management, time management, communication, empathy, and organizational classes PLEASE

    Pros

    - discount on most everything
    - benefits for part-time and full-time (expensive, but available to all)
    - because there is no leadership, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want to

    Cons

    - do not schedule to the business (entire departments left uncovered for days)
    - very common to dish out hours, only to take them away
    - no training
    - no communication
    - will not promote from within

    Advice to Management

Sadly, the only way you will fix the disfunction and morale of this store is to clean house. From top to bottom... just start over.

    Pros

Coworkers were wonderful to work with

    Cons

Management had zero respect for sales associates and there was no flexibility. All managers viewed sales associates like they needed to prove that they weren't delinquents. They hardly ever agreed to a day off and there schedules were written in stone. On top of that they assumed that everyone who entered the store was planning to rob them. Very distrustful AND very disrespectful!

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect. It will be reciprocated.

    Pros

    1. The associates are great to work with. I have made some great friends here.
    2. The employee discount is decent enough along with our low prices.
    3. Can't think of anything else...

    Cons

    1. The amount of favoritism at this store is astounding, I can't believe how the upper management can get away with this kind of work ethic. All of the associates work hard with only the "Favorites" getting credit. while the others get critisized for the same workload.

    2. The management team never has the right hand talking to the left. I've never seen a company that can not communicate like this one.

    3. There is hardly any associates on the floor. If a customer needs help they're stuck waiting for a long time, and at the cash registers it's just a mess with the 2 people scheduelled for the rushes.

    4. The customer base is atroachous. "The customer realy is always right"... as long as they pitch a big enough fit about it. Our corporate policies have been compromised to the extreame for the smallest problems that could have been dealt with through good customer service, and our district office shows no support to the associates in times like this. They always come back to us with genaric responses on how it was our fault that the customer was displeased even when we followed everything by the book.

    5. The condition of the building itself is one of the poorest I've ever seen. Literally, you cant walk down a single isle of the store with out seeing duct tape on the carpet covering the rips and snags, even the tile has duct tape covering the cracks and "pot holes" everywhere. The carpet has not been cleaned in years, and the shopping carts are all rusted out. The rest rooms are in horable condition and even with multipule air freshners the smell won't go away. Also the set up of the store makes it look alot like a second hand store because of the lack of organization.

    6. The cash register cubes are extreamly out dated and the equipment crashes constantly. When an order to fix the problem gets put in, it usually takes months upon months to have anything done about it and usually only half of the problem gets worked on.

    7. The way that associate of the month is chosen is not bassed on hard work and effort, but by a raffle that is more times than not rigged for a "favorite" to win.

    8. The amount of theft that goes on in the store is at an all time high with little or no support from management and lp. we are constantly asking them "are you going to do something about this?" but the responce is always "I didn't see them take anything" and management can not do anything.

    9. Many times I have seen upper management so confused about what their job is. This is probably is caused form the 70-80 hours that they are requierd to work to get things done with no help from the associates becaust there is none to help. Meanwhile departments are uncovered for days at a time.

    10. Management are always quick to throw the nearest person (including eachother) under the bus, and never stand up for the associates to the corporate office (including the favorites).

    11. Work is to be considered most important above time with family. If a time off request is submitted it is usually denied and if your availability changes you will be punnished with massive cuts in hours.

    12. If an associate needs to be repremanded, he or she is usually repremanded in front of other associates and customers.

    13. Morale is the lowest I've ever seen at any store, anywhere.

The list can go on for hours but I'm sure you get the point. I'm not saying that it''s like this at all stores. I'm just familar with this one and the problems that are ongoing with no forseeable change.

    Advice to Management

    (Store Level)

    1. A class in ethics, people skills, organization, sympathy for those under you, professional conduct, and working as a team is severly in order.

    2. If your associates come to you with a problem, don't dismiss them, they are the ones out on the floor doing the work and usually have good ideas on how to do the job better.

    3. You should at least try to get for your store what it needs, at least for safety purposes, like chains for the floor ladders to keep customers and children off of them, and floor mats for the entrances sooner than February when the snowy season is almost over.

    (Corporate Level)

    1. Allow more hiring and more hours so your store can function properly.

    2. When the store is not functioning properly, go to the store during the busy times to see what can be done better, instead of the slowest day of the week when nothing is going on. Maybe you'll see that the system that you have in place is only set up to fail.

    3. Store level management needs to be trained better as well as the associates. If we are not trained to do a job, how can more be expected of us.

    4. Make "Random" visits to the stores instead of planned ones. When visits are planned the store will always be on their best behavior, you need to catch them off guard if you want to find out what is really going on in your stores.

    Pros

Good for in between jobs, getting some experience, meeting new people.
that is about it, I can't think of anything else to say.

    Cons

    1. Pay could be better.
    2. Not enough staff to take care of merchandise or customers.
    3. Under staffed for the work that needs to be done.
    4. Store looks dirty.
    5. Poorly equiped for shoplifter security.
    6. Communication is poor.
    7. Lack of praise for the work done.

    Advice to Management

A little praise goes a long way in getting the job done. And better pay and benefits would not hurt either. We are all on the same side to make Burlington a better place to work.
