A rare gem in a challenging industry
Feb 6, 2023 - Sr. Account ExecutiveRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
BuySellAds is made up of a deeply kind and caring group of people. You'll build life-long relationships that go beyond the 9-5 grind. Great benefits (healthcare, retirement matching, home office stipend). Work with household brands and gain insight into their acquisition strategy. They're always trying new ways to make work fun & engaging, with happy hours, coworking sessions, and friendly competitions.
Cons
Most roles are client facing in some form, which can be great or not great depending on the individual client. As a revenue-driven organization, there's always the need to be ROI-positive as a team. While BSA is a very accommodating, people-first organization, there's a reasonable level of pressure to hit revenue targets. There's a substantial learning curve for new hires, given the many different channels BSA represents. It's a hurdle that, once you get past it, isn't typically an issue.

Promotes incapable managers to the top
Oct 17, 2022 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- a handful of great, hardworking people who want to do a good job - fully remote
Cons
- promotes the people who are the loudest and most difficult to work with and fire those who maintain the heart of the company - Was told that we have to make people believe they’re growing by assigning projects, but no follow through on actual growth advancement, and no support to maintain the job of 3 people + added projects - manipulative management that gaslights employees - uses fear tactics to motivate

Great Company, Great People
Oct 31, 2020 - Content Specialist in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
A lot of autonomy, great for self-starters. 100% Remote - great Slack culture. Cool colleagues. Supportive management. Great CEO. Management pushes very strongly for work/life balance and takes the concept of burnout seriously. Provides a lot of support when it comes to professional development. Work is a good kind of challenging. Management encourages others to try new things, experiment, and open to new ideas - with accountability, of course. "Have a cool idea? Create a business case. Let's review it together and maybe I can help." The company has a strong sense of purpose and moral integrity. It's bootstrapped. People here are passionate about helping support the independent web and creators (publishers). They're probably the most pro-privacy ad tech/marketing company you'll see. Many people here are on the front line of what's happening in software, ad tech, and marketing. Finger on the pulse. Super knowledgeable in the industry. This leads to a stimulating work environment and a lot of exciting projects.
Cons
Not a con, but a heads up. They face the same challenges other bootstrapped companies face and have a startup mentality. Don't be afraid to wear multiple hats and step up.

Wonderful (Remote) Company with Culture that's Unmatched
Apr 27, 2021 - Client Success Manager in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Culture, Colleagues, Benefits - I can't recommend BSA enough! They are and always have been a totally remote company so they are built for virtual onboarding and have dialed in. They pay competitively and their benefits blow other companies out of the water. Great management and most of the employees have been with BSA for 5+ (some 10-15+) years.
Cons
Proprietary offerings that can be a lot to learn during onboarding

Smart, capable team at morally upright ad-tech company
Feb 5, 2020 - Account ExecutiveRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Everyone on the team is a strong contributor to the company's success - Management empowers team members to manage their own book of business, try out new strategies, collaborate with other departments on a regular basis - Working fully-remote allows team members to have a better work/life balance-- many folks on the team have young kids, it's great to see they are able to pop out and pick their kids up from school etc. - The company is fully bootstrapped and has a form of profit sharing for years when we achieve growth - Team members become friends, meet up from time to time, go on trips together etc. - Sales can be tough if you're working remote, it's great to see management take that feedback and arrange in-market visits for us - Average employee tenure is something like 5-6 years, it's really impressive for any team within tech
Cons
- Successful employees are self-starters who can time-manage and own their work, similar to an early stage startup, this environment isn't for everyone - Because BSA is bootstrapped, employees do not receive equity, however they have created the profit sharing

Pros
You get to work remotely. There are some good, hard-working people here.
Cons
Runs purely on ego. If you’re a dude and a sales rep, you’ll do fine here. Otherwise, they’ll agree with you about issues at hand and then do nothing to resolve them. No one wants to make decisions or be held accountable. Leadership has no idea how to lead and relies on the opinion of only a few painfully inexperienced favorites. You’ll receive minimal direction, scarce resources to do the job and are expected to be a “yes” person, or be labeled unhelpful. Did we meet sales goals? Yes? Nothing else matters. Everything is about revenue. The quality of the work is rarely (if ever) recognized.

Great company dedicated to really revolutionizing publisher monetization online
May 30, 2019 - Anonymous Employee in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The company is passionate about helping both publishers and advertisers grow their brands. There's a fantastic culture of experimentation, moving quickly, and solving some of the larger problems in adtech and marketing. BuySellAds takes an uncommon approach to data privacy, and customer targeting (they don't do any of it), and it's refreshing to work for an ad tech company that puts data privacy and integrity first. The company is also fully remote. It's a huge bonus for team members that have young family commitments.
Cons
The company is scaling quick so things can change pretty fast. You have to be proactive in keeping up and getting the latest information.

Pros
You get to work 100% remote.
Cons
This place is banana nuts crazy. There are too many things to list here but I’ll provide 3 random facts: 1. Unlike most remote companies that make it a point for everyone to get together at least once a year, BSA did one company-wide retreat and then never did another one, because they found it too expensive. 2. The company once sent out a company-wide memo telling everyone that they needed to be “all in” on the business or they would be “all out” on a job. Very quickly, several people left and a string of dismissals commenced (firings continue at a high pace). 3. One of the senior management has a habit of telling employees that the company’s goal is to “eliminate all sales people” [at publishers]. I could go on but I think this gets the point across. Absolutely not a good place to work.

Pros
- Fully remote - Interesting problems to work on - at scale - Fairly decent tooling for development - Room for growth: your limit is how effectively do your job - Great management - Not a crappy "one weird trick! doctors hate him!" ad company - Extremely supportive of work-life balance - I mean this. I have a complicated family situation my manager _AND_ the CEO were extremely helpful, going above and beyond what you would expect.
Cons
Individual teams should figure out how to meet up at least once a year.
