I have been working at C.H. Robinson full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great People, Celebrating Successes, Health insurance is great.

    Cons

Put in 5 years then use experience to find new career. Used to have work hard play hard mentality, but that Is now gone. Lot's of Politics. Company is designed so you argue with other offices and basically spend all your time fighting with someone.

    Advice to Management

Restore the culture that was once at CHR. Start stressing that we are all on the same team. Honestly we spend more time fighting internally than I do with customers/carriers. Keep up with the times and start adapting to a competitive job market place.

I have been working at C.H. Robinson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Love the work environment, great people, lots of opportunity to develop your career, and trusting leadership. Empowered to make good decisions and grow. Looking forward to working here as long as I can.

    Cons

If you're not in IT, this review may not apply to you. The corporate culture seems to vary significantly depending on which building you're sitting in.

    Advice to Management

Keep cultivating the talent from within. If you empower them and pay them well, they will stay. Reward your top employees.

    I worked at C.H. Robinson full-time

    Pros

Excellent money, employee stock benefits are very valuable.

    Cons

Bloated management. Middle management in particular is excessive and filled with yes-men who have no actual job skills and contribute nothing. Gossip and back-stabbing define the culture as people jockey for ever-higher positions/bonuses. The people lower on the pay scale work the hardest. Young people, women and minorities have a tough time here.

    Advice to Management

Examine the "lifers" and you'll find the source of much of the toxicity in the organization. There are many people in this company who make too much money to leave, yet are bitter and ungrateful about their good fortune and create a negative atmosphere that stifles innovation.

I worked at C.H. Robinson full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Having C.H. Robinson on your resume looks good to future employers as they're not aware of the internal chaos and shenanigans that happen.

    Cons

I think this company could have great potential...if they taught their managers to treat their employees just as good as the managers are treated. Managers think so little of their employees it's disgusting. Their employees are only there to do a job and make management look good, but receive no help, little pay and bad remarks. Having worked at corporate, it's appalling to see that my team's size dropped nearly in half in only one year (50+ to 30ish), yet executives took no care as to why people were quitting. Management instead just feverishly hired temp/contract employees and put more pressure on their full time employee to get the job done with less. Ch strives to say that they help grow careers, however budgets are "so low", they can't afford to send anyone but management to trainings and industry conferences; employees must stay behind as someone must be there at all times. Their promotion of employees leaves little to be desired as they won't promote outperforming employees because they can't imagine loosing a top employee in that role. It's also very interesting to note the people that quit versus ones that are let go because mainly men are let go by being forced out and set up to fail - take on projects that are doomed from the beginning. It's absolutely mind boggling how this company continues to win "Best Place to Work" year after year. I also understand departments vary and so do managers, however it was rare to hear about a good manager.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach and treat employees with respect and actually help grow their career. Don't be condescending to your employees, they alone are the ones making you look good for executives. There's a lot more to your company than sales, so you should pay your employees accordingly. Just because you give people a large looking raise on paper doesn't mean it's a huge raise when the employee starts out so low.

I worked at C.H. Robinson (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great work life balance, which is difficult to achieve in IT.
    - Emphasis on team building
    - Management does a great job of empowering their employees
    - Very low turnover
    - Great training program
    - Flexible working schedule
    - Lot's of skilled senior level peers to collaborate and learn from
    - Company values and invests in IT & Dev, if you are in tech it's an exciting place to be.

    Cons

    - Sometimes difficult to find ways to make a big impact, which is usually true of any large company.

I worked at C.H. Robinson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very team oriented environment. Upper management is always there to help if you need it. The program that they use is pretty easy to learn and navigate as well.

    Cons

A lot of your day is bidding on freight, and trying to be the lowest carrier. Because of this, ethics can be riding the line of right and wrong as well. Had to work one Saturday a month as well.

    Advice to Management

Once I left they were going to implement a new program so that new employees would get a lot more acquainted with the program and industry. I think this will help turnover a ton!

    I worked at C.H. Robinson full-time

    Pros

Amazing people work at this company. I enjoyed connecting with others, the corporate culture enabled strong relationships amongst coworkers.
I also really appreciated Leadership. I had the opportunity to work with multiple levels from corporate to Branch Management and they all had a true interest in investing in the company and their coworkers.

    Cons

The work can sometimes be a typical 9-5 desk job with few challenges and pretty repetitive work, even for someone who worked on projects. Life is a little less fast-paced than other corporate cultures, but hey this is definitely a Pro for a lot of people!

    Advice to Management

Continue to foster your employees, and consider driving a few more challenges their way. Trust your team with the difficult tasks and give them ownership over the process
