I worked at C. Overaa & Co. as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great California construction presence; growing with multiple offices. Very hands on company that self-performs much more work than average with many diverse and interesting projects (Oakland Zoo! NASA! a huge marble mosque!) It is a 100+ year old family business that keeps to its successful traditions but is also always looking to improve with the best people and new methods. Overaa has basically built the Bay Area over the decades, including much of California's water infrastructure, BART, the universities, etc. It has been ranked as a best place to work for a few years now I think. As an intern I got to meet the president and CEO multiple times.

    Cons

Everyone is given surprising responsibility on projects -you have to take the initiative to do what needs to get done. But that means you really get into the projects and join the sense of accomplishment.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, I had a really valuable summer. Maggie and Lynn did a great job with the intern program.

    I worked at C. Overaa & Co. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Diverse projects, great work/life balance, family run company, office gym, good benefits. I only left to live outside the Bay Area.

    Cons

    nepotism, office is in Richmond.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. Jerry (CEO) knows everyone by name which means alot. Company is a good mid-size, so you don't get lost. Upper management seems a little out of touch with project operations.
