I worked at C&S Wholesale Grocers full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

In general the the team/coworkers are terrific people. The company provides many good opportunities in the way of benefits like on site health care and community gardens as well as volunteer opportunities during work hours and on the time clock for hourly associates.

    Cons

Top heavy in terms of senior leadership with a tendency to follow the mission statement when its to their advantage; saying one thing and doing another. Failures on the part of management create additional pressure on staff creating a do more with less work place and culture.

    Advice to Management

Mission, Vision and Values are great but they need to actually be practiced by the leaders and not only when someone is watching.

    Cons

Horrible benefits, not so great pay, you're nothing but a number, favoritism

    Advice to Management

Change everything you're doing because you are terrible.

I worked at C&S Wholesale Grocers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great training
They offer a "Leadership" program that is an excellent opportunity for training and advance within the company, would recommend if you can get in this program.
Made a lot of friends there, nice associates for the most part
    401k Matching

    Cons

Clear divide between upper-management and associates
Upper-management shows no appreciation for hard work, staying late/working on weekends
Black out days for vacation makes it nearly impossible to take a vacation
Not a lot of room for growth if you aren't apart of the leadership program
Work life balance is non existent
    Drastically underpaid

C&S is a good place to start a career, I started right after college and stayed for 2 years, the training is excellent. However, they take complete advantage of you and make promises they never keep. The turnover was EXTREMELY high while I worked there because no one was happy.

    Advice to Management

Have work events, connect with the associates.
Be flexible, I worked at C&S for 2 years and never got a vacation because I couldn't get it approved.
A large issue I had with management was that they hadn't bought in 10+ years and weren't understanding when issues arose.

I have been working at C&S Wholesale Grocers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I got lucky- my manager is nice.
Some of my team members are supportive.

    Cons

    - no flexibility based on management
    - only 2 weeks vacation, no holidays off except 5 required by law
    - stressful- put in hard work and get zero recognition
    - awful company culture- they think they can give you Christmas ornaments with a company logo on it for your hard work during the holidays and everything is great (its not)
    - no room for growth. takes people 5-15 years to get promoted, and thats only if someone leaves the company

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your people. listen to them when they complain about issues. Stop micromanaging us. You have us come in and talk about our issues in fireside chats and never fix our problems. work-life balance is important, and this company provides none.
