    Pros

    - Tons of opportunity to move up or around to different departments - Sr leadership taking real steps and making progress towards making C&S an employer of choice (competitive pay, ample training, work life balance) - Lots of good people - Becoming more transparent

    Cons

    - Long hours during peak seasons (depending on your dept) - Some managers shouldn’t be managers

    Advice to Management

Thank you for hearing the employees and actively working to address areas in need of improvement

I worked at C&S Wholesale Grocers full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great training They offer a "Leadership" program that is an excellent opportunity for training and advance within the company, would recommend if you can get in this program. Made a lot of friends there, nice associates for the most part 401k Matching

    Cons

Clear divide between upper-management and associates Upper-management shows no appreciation for hard work, staying late/working on weekends Black out days for vacation makes it nearly impossible to take a vacation Not a lot of room for growth if you aren't apart of the leadership program Work life balance is non existent Drastically underpaid C&S is a good place to start a career, I started right after... college and stayed for 2 years, the training is excellent. However, they take complete advantage of you and make promises they never keep. The turnover was EXTREMELY high while I worked there because no one was happy.

    Advice to Management

Have work events, connect with the associates. Be flexible, I worked at C&S for 2 years and never got a vacation because I couldn't get it approved. A large issue I had with management was that they hadn't bought in 10+ years and weren't understanding when issues arose.

I have been working at C&S Wholesale Grocers full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Nice/Caring culture - Very open/welcoming senior leadership - almost always make themselves available - Good work/life balance

    Cons

    - Location (Keene, NH) - Cheap (not much room in the budget for training, education, constantly avoiding any additional expenses) - Unmotivated work environment/culture of complacency - Territorial/Knowledge-Hoarding - Dying industry - Most (but certainly not all) leadership is strong, but promotional opportunities are slow, favor men, and those at entry level are under-paid and avoid change.

    Pros

Absolutely great people within a large organization that manages to maintain a family, small business-type atmosphere. Despite the many acquisitions, leadership makes a tremendous effort to create and maintain jobs which comes from the owner.

    Cons

Keeping a large workforce probably has the downside of not being progressive with compensation. There is a lot of management and leadership for a limited number of front-line workers. This leads to a work-life balance challenge.

    Advice to Management

Keep the positive values listed above, but look to see how you can further invest in your workforce by increasing wages or hiring more workers. Create a more robust career development path. Look to consolidate some management and delegate decision making to lower levels of the organization to improve responsiveness.

I worked at C&S Wholesale Grocers full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Never a dull moment, weekly pay for most positions including salaried ones. Room for advancement if you don't mind working 50-60 hours a week and putting in your time.

    Cons

As stated above the work/life balance at C&S is brutal. You will be at your office or in the warehouse for 10+ hours everyday. Even leaving on time was frowned upon. Vacation policy is terrible, only 10 days for first FIVE years. No bonuses outside of Director level, and no holidays observed except for Thanksgiving/Christmas. Very poor training.

    Advice to Management

Make PTO 15 days for salaried employees coming in. Improve the training process.
