I worked at CA Technologies (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, some professionals who are fantastic at what they do, the CA name can open some otherwise closed doors ( but can also keep them shut).

    Cons

CA was all over the place. A different direction every other week. Some Strategist were great most were C- at best. Most product line were dated and were baggage for the customers who worked at trying to get rid of them. If you do not have mainframe customers in your accounts you will not make you number. Local Mgmt is legacy CA and not equipped to help you sell into today's climate except to discount. The NE team reports to NYC and nothing you do in New England holds a candle to what happens in NYC.

Before accepting any sales position ask: how long the last rep was there for, how close to their # did they get, are there any ELAs in place in my account why not, how many stand alone deals were done in the accounts last year, why is there soooo much turn over at CA?

    Advice to Management

Stop with the changes. Refresh your local management to fit your new markets.myou have a group of people who don't know how to sell your best stuff driving your local teams. Most of the Regional guys should be put out as they have no idea how to contribute to the teams they lead. Leading is not asking for a deal today that everyone else is looking for in 6 months and then not understanding why. Then sending reps back in with discounts that make your technology look 3rd rate.

    Cons

CA Technologies is a power player in the technology space, but is not a well know brand. On occasion, this misrepresents the impact that we have with our customers and partners.

    Advice to Management

Corporate strategy needs to foster a better evolution for our customer's adoption of new products so we can deliver a higer yield for their investments

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

CA Technologies prides itself in giving its employees work life balance. They have a work from home program that many people take advantage of - most teams are scattered throughout the country, and sometimes even world, so the members of the teams work from home and meet via conference call and screen sharing applications such as Webex or LiveMeeting. Even those that do not work from home everyday are often allotted particular days on which they can work from home, or a lot flexibility with their schedule.

    Cons

Due to changes at C-Level occurring 'often', there is also often changes in executive management due to C-Levels bringing in executives they trust from previous companies or changing to others within CA that they trust. From there, changes take place within personnel due to the new strategies Executive Management decides to implement. Every other year there are major layoffs, and you are often just waiting around to see if you get a meeting invite from HR (which means don't set up any meetings for tomorrow, you won't be working here tomorrow). Also, there is no clear career path for anyone at CA. Often times you can only be promoted if your boss leaves, or if miraculously a new organization is created.

    Advice to Management

Take time to sit down and really plan career paths for the different levels of employees within the company. Clearly communicate what you see your employees contributions are to the company, and where you see there strengths might be able to take them in their next career move - be it within or outside of CA Technologies.

    Pros

Great salaries and bonuses and commissions, health benefits and other work benefits and conditions are at the top of the industry. CA can provide a very stable and comfortable life for its employees.

    Cons

Can be difficult to grow your career from within company. Not the most innovative environment and does not attract the most creative and ingenious in the sector.

    Advice to Management

Continue to evolve the company away from being a mainframe company. Foster career growth with internal employees.
