I worked at CA Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Strong sales team, helpful co-workers, really good salary

    Cons

Ability of company to adapt to changes in market

    Advice to Management

Big data on mainframes? That is probably not a winner...no tools other that what CA provides.

    Pros

Agile development environment, decent benefits plan options if willing to pay for more comprehensive plan. 5 weeks time off after 10 years of service.

    Cons

Politics driven, promotion opportunities in technical writing limited, particularly after technical writing department flattened out leadership structure and made leadership roles a 'behavior' but no longer part of job title.
Constant pressure to get ahead of peers to keep off layoff lists, layoffs constant threat, protect from within culture for more senior employees versus rewarding performers.
Raises minimal if you work your way up through company rather than come in from outside.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees, minimize constant layoff risk and inherent peer competitiveness to be two steps ahead of cube neighbor. Reduce manager to employee ratio. Make performance management more manageable and meaningful. Give raises! Allow flexible work location for globally involved employees.

I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

At least when I was there, CA did have some very bright people who were doing their best to manage in an environment which was constantly changing

    Cons

Frequent Reorganizations, Periodic layoffs (one friend recently said "It's May and I'm still here, so I think I'm OK". rotating cast of powers that be with a hidebound core set of ancients (many of these folks have "left").

I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lot of changes, very profitable, decent benefits, very international.

    Cons

Challenging growth opportunities, changing strategy constantly, high uncertainty among employees. Strange vacation policy.

    Advice to Management

Stick to a simple strategy and focus on execution versus internal politics. Too many changes.

    Pros

Its well established and growing company. It is working towards making sure its employees are happy and keeping up with the industry trend.

    Cons

Just like any other big company things can be slow at times and growth is not always well defined.

    Advice to Management

Keep getting constant feed back from its employees.

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Company treats people generally well,

    Cons

they have regular layoffs and periodic shutdowns of spending as the quarters are up and down. Not able to plan or consistently appy a strategy for growth. Not a high wage Pryor and limited stock plan or stock growth opportunity. Very little travel if you like travel unless you are in sales.

    Advice to Management

Growth is more than saying it. Creativity is more than a slogan. There must be tangible effort to support new ideas not just pay lip service to it.

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good salary and benefits, definitely in the higher range in the city. Flexible hours and flexible vacation time. Welcoming office environment. Lots of talented people to learn from.

    Cons

Higher management doesn't seem to prioritize quality and people become accustomed to delivering sub-standard products. It's not a very inspiring culture. Very corporate and slow.

    Advice to Management

Innovation should come from within the company. Right now there is not enough space or support for CA employees to be innovative, instead we are forced to constantly add new features on products that don't work from the start.

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The teams I have worked with have been good to work with. The management is trusting of you and gives you flexibility to do it in on your own terms. Your opinion is valued, and your contributions and the value you bring are noticed.

    Cons

    1. Vision from the senior managemet changes a lot, and that means lot of course correction during execution.
    2. Frequent job changes.
    3. Legacy baagages reduce the velocity of making any changes to products.

    Advice to Management

Older products need larger investments to get rid of technical debts. Budget for those expenses.
